It's simple, it is very much an unoptimized (it's a Japanese 3D porn game) mess + having tons of mods improving the functionality/look of the game adds to the performance being even worse. Multi-threading of your CPU will not help, it is simply GPU intensive and even a better GPU won't make it that much better, as I have a 3080 and even that doesn't yield me smooth 60 for the most part and having multiple chars in Studio scenes eats up my VRAM too, making working on some projects nearly impossible without an upgrade, but even then I wonder if that will help and won't be a waste of money.[Help] HS2 BetterRepack R16 – RTX 2060 12GB + i5-14400F only 20–30 FPS, huge drops with multiple characters
I’m having performance issues with Honey Select 2 BetterRepack R16.
My specs:
- CPU: Intel i5-14400F
- GPU: RTX 2060 12GB (latest NVIDIA drivers)
- RAM: 32GB
- SSD NVMe Gen4
- Windows 10
The issue:
- Even on Low settings, the game only runs at ~20–30 FPS.
- Switching between Low and High changes FPS by only 2–3.
- Loading multiple characters in Studio drops FPS to 2–3.
- GPU usage is 99%, while CPU usage stays around 15–20%.
For comparison:
- GTA V runs smooth 60 FPS (V-Sync).
- RDR2 on Balanced runs 40–50 FPS.
So the PC is fine. Is this just how HS2/Illusion engine works (poor multithreading)? Are there any mods or fixes to improve FPS in Studio with multiple characters?
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the explanation, that makes sense. It's simple, it is very much an unoptimized (it's a Japanese 3D porn game) mess + having tons of mods improving the functionality/look of the game adds to the performance being even worse. Comparing AAA games to this doesn't really make sense, R* is a massive company compared to now gone Illusion and they spent many resources to make these games run on a wide variety of hardware.

There is also the question of drivers, each version can improve or worsen the performance of any older or even newer games. Now multiply this with the amount of GPUs just from Nvidia there are released and it's a wack-a-mole situation, finding the perfect ones that will work with your game and give you the best performance. Thanks for the explanation, that makes sense.
The strange part for me is that even with the official Steam base game (no mods, no repack) I still only get around 20–30 FPS, and loading just 2 characters in Studio already drops it under 20.
That’s why I was confused – some people with weaker PCs (older i5/GTX 1660) say it runs smoother for them.
Is there maybe a hidden setting like render scale or some graphics toggle that could explain this difference? Or should I just accept 20–30 FPS as “normal” for HS2, no matter the hardware?
I'm playing at 1080p.There is also the question of drivers, each version can improve or worsen the performance of any older or even newer games. Long time ago I saw (I think here, not sure) that the game runs a bit better on AMD GPUs, whether that is true or not I don't know. Not a AMD GPU owner for over 9 years now.
My question would be, what resolution are you using? I'm on a 1440p monitor, so I'm using the 2560x1440 resolution. Personally I would love if there was an upscaler mod for the game, but so far nothing like that exists.
I'm too dumb and unmotivated to create one myself.![]()
