While I'm here, I might as well say I thought the new game is off to a good start. I liked the setup a lot better than the Meredith seduction in the first game, and the new cast seems very promising. It was great to see Brie given a prominent role, too; I wish it felt a little more distinct from Julia's last time, but there's plenty of time for it to grow in a different direction based on her different character. And the new game definitely has the same sensuality and slow paced atmosphere that made the first game so remarkable. I'm curious to see more, which is a good sign after the confusing end to the last game.
I will say, however, that the transition between games feels very rough. I get that unexpected things happened to the MC, but it comes across more as a rewrite than it does a development of the story. We were told in Game of Hearts that the MC was going to gather followers because he needed them to live, but now his only followers are in some sort of comma to sustain Julia with no explanation to how the MC will manage without them. Similarly the MC has retroactively accepted the invitation to the House of Hearts, but we never learn how this would affect his previous deal with Astofiel - assuming that's even valid after Julia's 'timer' expired. I also find the goals of the new contest very confusing (as well as how the MC's own agenda fits into/contradicts them): wouldn't we want to know who the House is broadcasting to in order to maximize the appeal of the product? For that matter, I'm not even sure what metric is used to determine entry into the Hall of Fame.
And before anyone says anything, I recognize that some of these questions might be ones for which the MC himself doesn't have good answers yet. But if that's the case, we really should see the MC asking these questions directly rather than eliding over them in the transition to the new scenario. IMHO, either the first game should have done a little more work to foreshadow the House of Hearts, or the new game should have had a little more in-character exposition at the start.
But that's water under the bridge at this point and I don't think it detracts too badly from what, again, is a very solid start here.
First game was an absolute masterpiece and there's no signs after one episode that this one will be any different. I truly have no criticisms for what I consider the best active project on this website.
Got a bug with ur mod at the moment where one could hug Karty after their fight

While I agree that the transition feels a little rough, I think it has more to do with presentation and the fact that it rewrites the last scenes of the previous game and interjects new info a bit awkwardly more so than the facts and logic of what is introduced.
We're told MC needs followers because demons derive power from worship. As long as they are his worshippers he doesn't actually need them around him to live, it's more that each worshipper fuel him through I assume depth of devotion and quantity of worshippers. The more powerful he is, the more he can defend himself if he gets attacked during the war. Besides, he's made the conscious choice to forgo them and the power they bring and sacrifice his chances to live for Julia (hence why in the first game he straight up tells her that she won't like what he had to sacrifice to save her). He doesn't need to "manage without them" until the war starts and it's clear that his inclusion in the Hall of Fame is a testament of his demonic powers, which makes sense with the previously established rules since he'll gain worshippers to use in the House of Hearts and the depth of their devotion will play into how much he can do with them there to satisfy the viewers. In short, how he'll manage without them is by gaining new followers that will grow his power (and also by finding a solution to save Julia before the war starts so he can also bring them back. Plus by counting on his allies such as Astofiel, Brie, Asmodius etc. to the extent that they are true allies.)
We are still missing some details from Astofiel, that I agree with.
I think the goal of the contest are pretty clear. The House will choose people to appear to in dreams and each time they enter it, they'll know then and only then who the House has chosen this time and the given scenario and have to adapt. We are told that prestations are ranked by how much the dreamer is willing to sacrifice to participate in the dream, so it's clear that demons are ranked at least in part based on how much energy they can extract in a given timeframe with the most efficient being rewarded with a place in the Hall of Fame. It's supported mechanically as well as our "demon energy" indicator from the previous game has been converted into a score indicator that now judges how well we've done in a given scene. The intro also tells us that we can't "lose" during the tutorial mission indicating that they may be penalties if we don't reach a certain score (though that may just be about filling the caution bar).
Appears that I am stupider than I thought, I didn't finish the first, my save was from december 2024 lmao, apparently there was some more content to go through. Was nice to replay it, and I understand your adoration for Meredith. I'm staying on Maxime though... Did I miss some Asmodeus in the first ? Not gonna lie, I replayed but sped up the process by skipping some chunk. Nice to finally have the face on people.
As for the nice guy, honorary Meredith's lover, why not just chill out and be cordial ? I understand his confusion about Julia, given "Fall of Angels"; "Archon"; "Demon Boy", (not title accurate and are dead) well they have a similar plot point with a girl being a construct of their mind, and in the angel one if I'm recalling right, his construct was indeed his childhood friend. Plus don't forget we all play other AVN, have other hobby and of course, a life. So being all pissy for a slight mistake ? That's harsh in my opinion.
I reallly don't know how to feel about giving players icons next to their choices. What makes VN's special is that any choice can be picked based on the interpretation of the scenario by the player. With the icons, it makes one choice (the love option) too easy and obvious to pick and the other choices are just placeholders.
i am fine it is there, but the UI design of the stats screen having a upgrade would be nice. the stats screen and the icons in general are the only part of this game lacking behind the artistic value
