How common is the word "muff"? (in US-english)

This just makes me think of how much slang can change. As an avid fan of baseball history, I'm reminded of two infamous player errors from the 1910s: Snodgrass's Muff and Merkle's Boner.
The words just meant "dumb mistake" back in the day.

(For what it's worth, 'meuf' (phonetically identical to 'muff') is French slang for woman, although the origin has nothing to do with English)

Colour me, the Englishguy clueless, who just learned Muff means hair to you people, rather than Cunt as it does to me.

The word "muff" conjures the mental image of 1980's VHS porn to me. I suppose if that's the image you're going for it's a great word to use, otherwise it's out of favor today.

There are a lot of terms for pubic hair.
Pubes, muff. peach fuzz, Bush, fuzz,beaver, rug, grass, grassy ...
In truth you could have people different ages use different terms. That would be more accurate.
