I did the same thing with DfD, playing Chapter 1 when it came out, and then only trying again once Chapter 3 came out...I've had The Wind's Disciple downloaded for so long but have yet to play it. For some reason its not really pulling me in, but at a certain point, find those diamonds in the ruff becomes a strenuous task, so I'll probably give a go sometime soon.
and the first two chapters of Daughter for Dessert were amazing but its one of those I've just put on the shelf until a few more chapters come along. Don't know how Patreon hasn't jumped all over it with that title, but I pray they don't.
As to The Wind's Disciple, it's not a visual novel... It's mostly a story driven quest game... The key to not grinding so much, is to follow the main quest chain... And go back to places you haven't visited in a while to see if anything new opened up there... Even after the main story ends, you can still go back and explore... Like when you start off in the abandoned inn with the guy and gal... At a certain point you don't need to interact with them for the main plot, but sometimes they may open up new content because you're far enough in the main plot... So revisiting may show something you didn't see already... Plus some folks may not be into silly characters... It's not going to be for everyone... But I had fun with it, chuckling now and then... I mean it is a basically a corruption story about a virginal elf mage, who lives in a town of sex and erotic behavior, eventually giving in more and more to her sexual identity and desires... Along with a loony side kick...
