Are those achieved by continued game play or is there a patch? I've played it past the endings hoping they'd unlock.

I didn't play through 2.0.9 yet but even through the older versions, after clicking it and expanding the content, it would always switch to Japanese. My guess is the fan translation used is based on the original content of the game, but was never updated. Only this phase is fully translated. When you prompt the game to unlock and expand the contents, it uses the newer assets where the translation stops at that point.

That must be the problem. I'm playing 2.0.8, I'm using Crossover on a mac and every time I do the 2.0.9 update from your post it gives me a black screen and the game wont' start, but 2.0.8 works fine.
