Not really much of a game at this point, but shows (if slow) progress.

The sex scene and character creation framework are solid.
Animations and especially character models are really good.

I really hope that it actually goes somewhere and isn't just another attempt of Patreon bating.

Good game up to a point. Now let me me give you the reason this is a 3 and not a 5.

    1) You can have all kinds of nice sexual positions with your captives once you catch them. That is great. You just never get to cum. Not an option that I could find anyway. All kinds of camera angles but sadly it just lacks satisfaction when you don't get to cum to a finish.

    2) All kinds of map destinations. How come I can't find a way to sail there instead of having to be a professional swimmer? I am a captain after all. I have a ship. I just captured an entire crew for it. Should I not be able to use it?

    3) Coin is important. I think. Apparently there are 2 different types of currency in this game. There are the currency you earn from the guild (That is not accepted anywhere but sellable to a specific black market guy that so far I have not seen where they say he is at in my game yet at night. Then there are coins you can earn from selling random crap you find around the map. Not a lot of it and not sure what is supposed to be given to people you meet and those you can buy and sell to. Apparently there are both.

    4) There is a journal but it is sadly very pathetic when it comes to keeping up with game info you may need later. So make notes yourself player.

    4) Hope this game gets fleshed out better in the future so I can revise this and add back those points I took away. You can do a bit of stuff but sadly what there is gets boring quickly however. Thank god it does add a marker for some of the stuff you find on the map. Not all but some.

The potential is definitely there for this to be very fun in the future. Will keep an eye out for updates to see what gets some meat added to it for sure. It is so close to being really fun that it hurts right now.

It's like furry porn Mount and Blade. I follow the game on Steam, so I see fixes and updates almost every day, which is always a pleasure. It's truly a cool sandbox with fun mechanics. The map is vast, so I would like to see more activities on it, more settlements, characters, and mini-games. I wish the developers the motivation to continue developing it and not abandon it.

Okay, this one is kinda messy, so let's break it down.

Firstly, I have to give the developer some credit, because it's a very ambitious project to take a part in. The idea itself, I mean just think about - an open world RPG with quests, exploration, random encounters, lore (!), in 3D ?!. On paper it's basically Skyrim with furry sex. But, in reality, it looks like engine presentation game with occasional generic sex scenes thrown in here and there. Yes, the map is quite big, there's more than one island to explore, but what is there to explore? Most of what you'll see is just empty terrain with a few feral furries roaming around that spot you easily a mile away and are scared shitless of you. And yeah, you're supposed to hunt them (hence the name of the game). Sometimes you might find some points of interest, but you have to run miles in order to get to them. And the running speed in the game is soo slow. I mean, how you develop a game like this and not realize that it takes too much time to just go around the freaking island? Thanks god for the autorun button, or I would've broken my middle finger by now. I'm indie game connoisseur, I can handle exploring the game with snail speed while watching some YT videos in the other window, but what do you expect regular people to do? No wonder that this game isn't very popular (below 1k reviews on steam) and it's in development (still!) since 2018. You might think I'm cherry picking, but really, you'll spend half the time just watching the running animation.

But that being sad there's positive things in Hunt and Snare as well. Your main character is fully customizable, from the species to the length of your you know what. You can be a futa, a cute femboy, a big ol' wolf, a charming woman. The sex scenes themselves, well... Generic. You can go to town with some characters that give you quests, which consists of you watching a cutscene and clicking a button to progress text below, and the scenes themselves. Yeah, just like in Carnal Instinct, but not as juicy. I'm a big opponent of walls of text in lewd games, since I'm a "show, not tell" kind of guy, but at least the texts aren't as big as in something like TiTs or CoC. You can also capture feral furries, and travel around the world with them. You can have sex with them almost anywhere, and choose whether to be dominant or submissive in sex, which is a big pro of course, since I like subbing in games like this. The lore and quests aren't as bad as you imagine. Sometimes I forget that I'm playing a Unity sex furry game and immerse in this world. I have an affinity for RPGs like that. Love it or hate it, some would say you should go for something more casual when developing lewd games, but there's something about it, as if the game has some soul in it. People are quick to judge devs for being lazy, or not delivering updates often, but it's genuinely hard to work on a project like this, especially when you're doing it all on your own (or in a very small team). I guess it's not an excuse to not criticize it, since the dev isn't our buddy, but at least it's not a soulless sellout made by a big studio.

Overall, I appreciate the effort, but it's surely not for everyone. You'll have an advantage of buying it on steam, because it has mod support via workshop. I haven't looked through them, but I'm sure there's a lot of worthwhile stuff there. Hunt and Snare isn't abandoned yet, it's still being updated, but be aware, because updates aren't as frequent as one would like.

Fantastic game, can be a little discouraging with the vast size of the island(s), but a mod or two can fix that. Looking forward as always to future updates, probably going to pay for the game at some point. 5/5 Keep up the wonderful work.

The game as it is right now is in an okay state. It's nothing extraordinary, but also not the worst I've played. There are a few glaring issues though, as well as some pretty basic -at least in my opinion basic- quality of life and regular features missing.

    1. How are there no climax animations? This is a porn game where one of the essential part of sex is missing. You can sit there and have your dick sucked by a captured npc for hours (yes I have tested it) and nothing happens. The only time you get any indication of a charatcer climaxing is during the few existing, and sometimes very hard to unlock, dedicated animations. Even those barely have any sign of a character climaxing. A sligthly louder moan at best to indicate that a given character has just busted a nut. This should have been one of the first things to be added in the earliest versions that featured sex in any way and yet it is still missing 31 version in.

    2. Why are the character dedicated sex scenes so hard to get?
I understand that the characters have different preferences when it comes to the player's chosen gender, so that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the oddly specific unlocking requirements some of the scenes have. Like how you can only get the Pail blowjob scene if you pick a very particular set of answers during the first time you talk to him. I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of players, who have not checked the wiki, don't even know that Pail has that scene. The player should be able to unlock every sex scene regardless of whether or not they picked a very specific set of responses. Which plays into my next point.

    3. Why do I have to go through hours of trial and error to get to the sex aspect of a porn game?
Those characters that do have sex scenes that don't require a particular set of responses on the first meeting still have them locked behind a very specific string of answers the player has to give in the correct order. I have already spent a couple of hours trying to get the scene with Dhax, which exists according to the wiki, but since it seems to require one of those specific response orders I have yet to get it. And the only way to get it right is through trial and error. There should absolutely be multiple and flexible ways to reach every sex scene available to the player's chosen gender. Maybe even add a hint system if the player fails too much.

    4. Why is there so much walking?
With this I want to make clear that I don't really have too much of an issue with this. The world is big and looks great but at least give us an option to quickly return to the Unnamed or the town.

    5. What's with the multi layered currency? I do have to admit that this point may be null, as I have not progressed very far into the main story yet. But having the currencies be seperated into Guild Drakes and regular Drakes seems sort of redundant for where the game is at right now. It's just an extra walk the player has to make, and from where I am at right now, it may even have to be during night time, though I could be wrong on that.

    6. Why do we have to wait so long for the time of day to change? I am aware of the resting mechanic at the Inn. However, that one is locked behind the ability to trade Guild Drakes for regular money so that you can pay the bar keeper and use the bed to rest. As I have not yet unlocked the ability to exchange currencies, I can't say if you can skip from day to night and vice versa, or only from night to day. Either way, the player is more or less forced to wait a substantial amount of real time to even unlock the ability to trade currencies, as it has to be night at least once. Which, if my sense of time was correct, is about 2 hours of real time. Give us the option to wait in a spot and let in game time pass quickly.

That is all I have to say for now. I will probably be finishing the quest line I have started, which hopefully unlocks the ability to exchange currencies, and then just check back whenever I see this game pop up in the new uploads on here.

Well... i found so much stuff that i had nowhere to put it...
On very top of the mountain in middle of the island You will find chest with super expansive clothes... but getting there will take You like 30 min :p at least...

Well i finished most of the quests in this game but this game kinda sucks...

if You want to know how much i explored, there is Capitan hat on tiny tiny tiny island that is barely visible on north from city ( around 40 min pointless walk )

There is cave on right part of map where You can clip thru floor.
Near port there are island, You can find lot of stuff on islands.
Forest on Left side of the map is pretty much empty, or im blind.

Remember to disable grass, some chests are so tiny that with grass you not gonna be able to see them ( and grass is kidna shit in this game )

    Character editor is good enough...
Game is kinda stupid... super giant world and super empty world...

Well... it was kinda waste of 20 hours :D

Game could be rly good... but for that we will need to wait until 2057...
well I'll come back there in 34 years then :D

I played this game like 6 months ago... and i don't know if that game got update but tbh. nothing changed...

Graphics are fine, h-scenes are somewhat lackluster, but the characters are surprisingly believable for a furry porn game of all things.
The gameplay seems promising even if it's a little lackluster at the moment but there are already hints at some satisfying RPG elements that could lead to nice replayability with different characters or builds. Sadly the only weapon in the game is an infinite ammo rifle at the moment, but I have faith in this game and the effort which has been so clearly put into it already.

    My suggestions:

For the players-try the game itself for a little bit until you decide you've had your fill, then play around with the character creator and the gallery for actual sexual content.

For the developers-I think if you add more accessible and useful fast travel it would make the game a lot more enjoyable. Some characters are also pretty out of the way, so adding some kind of indication of where they are on the map would be nice once you hear about them or get close enough. Besides that it's just the obvious. Adding already planned mechanics like trapping or bows, making your crew more useful to the gameplay loop and making exploration easier/more meaningful are the ways to go forward.

Wishing the devs good luck on this one.

Fairly relaxing, until you have to run across continents to places you've already been because you found an NPC with a quest in some approximate corner of the map.

Still, the animations just have speeds, no stages or finishing and getting usable currency as a task of itself, making it more of a tedious task, rather than relaxing exploration oriented game.

    Then there's jank:
    • I can hear the ocean waves on hillsides and forests.
    • The night-and-day cycle is super slow and gives long periods of different lighting, so after capture, it is hard to assess the prey.
    • Grass can and is beneficial to run on not because of performance or appearance, but to be able to hunt without an obstructed view

Needs quick-travel to solve trekking through an almost empty map and to give map markings some meaning.

Another suggestion - adjustable spawn rate, since there's no defined spawn area other than 'near some trees or hills'.

I doubt quick-travel is on the agenda (even with quick-save existing), which in a massive world like this, so-

the game ends up boring and tedious at times, rather than exploration and adventure at a relaxed pace

This game is a pretty good game. I love the world building but the towns seem just a tad bit empty. The lore is great and I am sure that you would be able to build on that foundation. please turn this game into a great game!

A very good game. does not require an overpowered pc (if you play in low quality but it's less beautiful). from what I have followed the project is still in development but with additional features it will be perfect. one of the best X games I've played <3

I've never been a big fan of furry but this game is really cool and makes you want to explore more ( i'm bad at english so i used google translate )

I would give this 2 stars, but the whole thing just reeks of cash-grab. The worst thing about that is that you can see the game didn't start as such. But basically all content there is was already in the first release (more or less).

The quest system is absolute garbage, the performance is *okay*, but still not great (and my pc isn't the worst), what sex scenes there are are mostly alright. Lack of bodily fluids & proper sound-effects really takes away from them though.

There's quite some stuff locked behind player sex, for no apparent reason, other than that there hasn't really been any new animation made in quite some time, or, if so, it's really tedious to get to them. Story goes nowhere, everything seems to be either a placeholder or sorely underdeveloped.

The fact that people are throwing thousands of bucks at the Dev via Patreon just confirms yet again that Patreon is a scourge on gamedevelopment. I can't fully blame the Dev though for people being morons & giving them money for not finishing their game ever (or, more precisely, not really developing their game any further).

I am writing this as a someone who doesn't really enjoy furries but was curious about game play and mechanics of this game since it is in development for some time and I expected it to be somewhat fleshed out in this regard.

Game is looking pretty good and runs reasonably well, at least compared to other H games in unity, and dialogues are ok but this is about as much as I can say in favor of this game.

Confusing start aside, there is a lot of player time wasted on traveling on foot across empty landscape. Hunting is bare bones and what you can do from there on with a prisoner is non existent or one giant placeholder.
After all this time there is no core game play loop to speak of and majority of dev time was spent on H animations and fur detailing to please the core audience and keep the money rolling.

This is not a game worth playing if you are not here for the fur and I doubt it will ever be finished in this aspect because it feels like it already fallen into the scheme of slow content trickle to keep the patreon going for as long as possible. Not really a bad thing if you are into it and are ok with the rate of new content but don't expect an actual complex game play in this sex sim

Amazing open world furry game set in the sailing age where you take the role of ship's captain. Your playable furry character is impressively customizable and has some rpg elements in it.

The game overall feels very immersive with believable characters and massive world building.

The sex scenes are animations accompanied with very well written erotic textual description.

For furries this is in my opinion the best game out there. 10/10 would recommend

First off, this is not a review of the adventure mode, but what the game does right as a porn game.

This game has many aspects that I like, the character creation is very good, lots of customisation and despite the tags you can make a trans protagonist, I quite enjoyed making two characters to use in the showroom mode.

The showroom mode is what I would advise people to be using when playing this game as it is really good, showing a LOT of different sexual positions, great for when you want to get a quick fap in.

For the character creation and the showroom I gave this a 4 out of 5 stars.

The only thing I liked about adventure mode was the way my female character walked, the world is far too open and feels like game assets are just dumped everywhere. Stick to the showroom for best results.

    Playfulpetfox

This game is a far cry away from the worst of the worst, but when it comes to a Patreon based game, especially one that has also made sales on Steam and is still accruing Patreon funds, you need to look at how it's progressed.

Over the course of its existence, the game has gone from buggier to buggier, and although it is progressing, it's gone a very, very short distance. The game is laggy, there' almost no content, and it lacks gameplay in a game designed to be actively engaging.

You're given a hunting rifle and are intended to hunt furries in order to capture and mate with them. The hunting mechanic is the primary focus of the game, as it leads into the second focus. The sex. The gunplay is almost non existent, and is about as basic as it comes. There is very little feedback, and the actual hunting grounds are just empty plains with the occasional furry inbetween. It's boring until you find something, and then you just run after it for 30 seconds to 4 minutes depending on if you hit the first shot. Then you can have a decently animated sex scene...and that's it.

If you want to go back to the very, very falsely dense town, you have to run all the way there, and you are not fast. The town is filled with buildings. A LOT of buildings, and only 3 of them allow you to enter.

The best, and really only good qualities of this game, are the animations and the models. They're higher quality than most of what you find in furry games, but sadly, the bar of quality ends there. Gameplay hasn't really improved since I discovered this game first in 2018. In 2 years, this game has only gotten more confusing to start, as it went from having 3 working buildings to a fake city with no direction, forcing you to wonder around until you find the buildings with windows.

I wouldn't call this a cash grab, just a game made by an under qualified (and perhaps under motivated) developer.

    [updated for r30]

hunt and snare is a lot of goddamn walking until it isn't.

that statement is a little more nuanced than a first glance might suggest -- i do like this game, after all, and have been following it for a few years now. that said, its pacing is complete dogshit, and presents the game's biggest weakness.

the main island, skiia, is enormous; so big that you can comfortably toggle autorun, go to another room to brood or whatever, and return to find yourself not even halfway to your destination. and you had better get used to walking everywhere, because you can't just sail to the nearest coastline, captain, that unreleased feature has been in-dev for time immemorial. hope you can survive on just a single fast travel point.

walking places is incredibly unsexy gameplay. sure, the game tries to spice it up a bit: tranquilizing various furries and thereafter swapping fluids with them is the second most prominent gameplay mechanic behind holding down shift and W at the same time, and it's done passively via exploration. this plus looting for cash, clothes, and piercings sounds like it would make for a refreshing, original 3d RPG, but the sheer amount of walking and walking and walking very nearly collapses the whole game.

thankfully, hunt and snare has a few things going for it that juuust manage to tip the scales in its favor. for one, the writing is solid, presenting unique worldbuilding (read: it would work outside of porn) and some likeable dialogue. it's well-edited for an h-game, and exhausting the characters' dialogue trees just for its own sake is usually worth your time even if there's no scene at the end of it. on top of that, the background lore is intriguing without revealing too much -- key to good worldbuilding, in my opinion.

the premise is something like this: you're a hunter, and you hunt feral furries who live in the woods, because they can reproduce and sentient ones can't. doping them up with the literal blood of God makes them sentient and allows you to introduce them into polite society, clothing optional. simple, except several encounters imply that maybe God isn't so much God as he is perhaps a demigod, or minor god, or demiurge, or whatever. interesting stuff!

speaking of the writing, it shines in the scripted h-scenes, which are bar none the best part of the game. while most fuckable characters have a preference for poon or peen, the selection is pretty balanced, so you don't have to sacrifice your autogynephilia preferences for the sake of more options. the randomly-generated scenes with your formerly-roofied hoes are less stellar, but the sheer variety of poses keeps things fresh throughout the game, even if there's no cum at all outside of the narrative telling you someone came.

besides the sex itself, the piercing system does a phenomenal job at sexing up the game, and is possibly my favorite feature in any porn game ever. the sheer variety is fantastic: you can pierce tits, genitalia, brows, noses, ears, everything. there're at least 20 slots for piercings alone and tons of them to find out in the world. it almost entirely makes up for the lackluster early-game clothing options, which are limited to pirate stuff and lingerie, because this is game where you own a boat and have sex a lot.

the high notes fall a little flat due to the character models, sadly. the character creator in particular is in desperate need of more sliders a la modded skyrim's CBBE; it is very difficult to make anything other than generically attractive skinny-waist girls and generically attractive twinks. since my type is "built like a fridge," this means a few docked points. adding on the too-big heads, the vacant stares, and the always-hanging-open mouths; the sex sometimes becomes a little stilted, like smushing barbies against each other.

so, the game sounds like a good idea on paper, but it's torpedoed by geologically slow gameplay and poor customization, right? WRONG.

well, half wrong. the thing is, the game has a whole second island beyond skiia, where all of these problems completely melt away.

the walking? fixed. kizan is half the size of skiia but with about the same amount of loot and environments, so you get all the exploring at a reasonable pace. also, there's better fast travel now. the meh clothing? boom, gone. it's all tribal shit here: everyone's wearing sexy toga thingies that do absolutely nothing to cover the goods. the character models? eh, still weird and doll-like, but i'm a scalie before i'm a furry, and the whole goddamn jungle is full of lizard people. it's a win in my book. on top of that, it's gorgeous, and puts skiia's open plains to shame with its dense rainforests and sweet fantasy water-wall.

this all brings me back to my point. hunt and snare is walking until it isn't, and the second island represents both a literal and figurative interpretation of that one-liner. on the literal side, it cuts out all the walking, and on the figurative side, it shows that the devs (dev? singular?) have realized that their initial plan for furry Skyrim with sex was too ambitious and tried to scale the game down to a reasonable size. hopefully, this means that future additions to hunt and snare will follow this philosophy of a small, dense open world instead of a sprawling, barren one. lord knows the world needs a good 3D furry RPG that can run on a laptop. carnal instinct doesn't count.

in the meantime, if you decide to try this game out, i highly recommend you install Tabby's excellent I don't have time for this mod and rebind autorun from numlock to middle mouse.

So far this is just a technical demo, the amount of actual content is sufficient for around 5-15min of gameplay, porn content for 5 min, maybe 10 if you take your time.

On the positive side i was surprised that you can swim and there is swimming animation.

Update for r5.24.3 (tldr: Really good options menu, better general optimization.)

Options menu is really good, lets you set quality level up while keeping performance good. General optimization is noticeably better.

Update for r5.24.1 (tldr: Getting better, slowly but surely.)

City is much bigger now, layout has changed. Many new NPCs around, with many things to talk about and have fun with. New NPCs are in the city and in the wilds. Terrain was updated a bit with rivers and landmarks. Bartender's quest is doable in full.
Performance took a massive hit (my PC is below minspecs, using old_processor beta branch on steam, but can handle most modern games without much problems, 40+ fps fhd in BotN and MGI: P on high). In r5.23 I was able to get steady 40+fps on medium and 25-30 on high. Now I get less than 10 on medium. High fps on low, but not enjoyable to look at.
Next update is advanced options menu. Waiting patiently.

    Rating for version r5.23

Stability: No crashes, but it requires "modern" CPU to work with latest optimisations (SSE4.1 support). General performance is sad, no optimisation whatsoever, especially lighting and shadows, easily can cut fps 3-4 times, sun is like thousand light sources, even in the showroom fps drops are insane. Can't see 2 gigs of vram on my 2gb card, but then happily eats away all 2gb on high settings.

Content: Pre-alpha state, for now it lacks systems like inventory, proper save system (some barebone save system was implemented in r5.23), prey management, ship activities, shops, active NPCs, etc.

Systems that were implemented in some basic but functional way: character creation, day and night, movement with sneaking, swimming (no diving), passive NPCs, wild "prey" NPCs, dialogues, shooting, tracking (long lasting footprints) and hunting, map with markers, questing and sex scenes. Everything is basic, but works surprisingly well. There is a showroom to see all animations with different characters. Jiggle is there, jello type jiggle.

Gameplay: Basically VN in 3D environment for now, you talk to NPCs, play dialogue choice minigame, get a sex scene, or simple quest that leads to a sex scene. Or you shoot wild NPCs with tranquilizer, put a collar on them and then sex them in different positions in some specific points. Only one prey can follow you and game doesn't save your prey yet.

Graphics and Style: Environments are really basic, main city hub is just bunch of asset store buildings glued together. Terrain is...it's there I guess, no landmarks other than mountains, so it's hard to navigate without using map constantly. Trees, grass look samey but okay, it's easy to never find knocked out prey in the tall grass. Character models are really good, cartoonish style, but highpoly and smooth. Body parts with enabled physics have seams, even on a statue in town they are visible on chest area. Char textures are noticeably hand drawn, if you've used drawing software like PS or Krita, you'll recognize familiar brush strokes. But in general they look good (more fur strokes needed though, or some fur texture underneath, sometimes it looks like leather or latex). Animations are top notch, scene controls are basic, but speed, camera rotation and pov options are there.

FUN: Sex scenes are high quality and poses are plentiful, with variations depending on genders (names of FF handjob scenes made me lol). Nothing bad to say about. Gameplay is really barebones and with canine prey spawning really far away, it can take 10-30 minutes just to get there, so many players won't even see them. Characters are interesting and unique enough to remember them. Quests are good, they require you to read and remember to get proper rewards, but one quest-minigame in particular requires you to know a thing from the game world you just can't possibly know (Sterling scene minigame. Is there a way?), so it will take you several restarts to get. One of the quests isn't finished yet. Other than that, it's fun for a couple of hours per character gender.

Conclusion: Interesting game with interesting ideas. Can get you 3-5 hours of fun in its current state. Got it on steam, do not regret spending money. If development will not stop within next 6 months, will throw more money on it. Especially if there will be more optimization, dropping down from 80+fps on low to 20 on medium with graphics like this is a no-no. Project is really ambitious for such a small team, but I want to believe. Next patch will be available Jun-Jul 2019. (y)

    tip: F1-F5 will change graphic settings in game, F1 - low, F2 - med, F3 - high, F4 - ultra, F5 - scale x2.
