If and when we do get the new version here, can someone please keep the link to the old build, be it 0.5 or 0.6? Despite being a little buggy, I did like the vibe and effects on Unity, and I would hope the chance to experience that doesn't get lost on the forums.

Hey everyone,
The new version of I Was a Teenage Vampire is out!

When the first version released years ago, I gave the files directly to BaasB to upload for me, to keep a low profile (thanks to certain website's content rules). That meant I didn’t get the dev tag or thread control. Then life hit hard, like it does.

But I want to say this clearly: I never gave up on the game. It started as a passion project after the pandemic, part coping mechanism, part tribute. Some of the characters are fictional. Some aren’t. I’ll let you decide which are which. If you’ve ever lost someone and needed a story to survive it, you’ll understand. I’m not really a studio. Just one guy with a pieced together PC and a day job in construction trying to keep the lights on. This project has kept me going when nothing else did. And over the past several months, I’ve rebuilt everything to breath some life into it.

The new version is built in Ren'Py, no more navmesh or pixel hunting, which I know people weren’t into. I’m still working on voice acting, tightening the audio, and ironing out a few new Ren’Py related quirks.

I support this community and I support sharing. I will post a free public version here on May 6, with early access for supporters available now, a week ahead of time.

It was never my intention for this game to be “paywalled.” Even if I’ve been quiet, I believe in the spirit of this site. I grew up poor, and file sharing, Napster, Kazaa, LimeWire, was how I found art, music, identity. To me those were never theft. They were lifelines. And I wouldn’t be here without them. So yes, I support sharing. If you can support the project financially, amazing. But if not? Play it anyway. That’s how stories live.

I’m not sure if this version should get a new thread or stay here. I’m open to what the community or moderators think.

If you played the old versions, I hope you’ll give this one another shot. If the game meant something to you, or almost did, I’d be grateful if you left a review or dropped a comment. Even one sentence helps more than you know. I'm very thankful to the supporters here.

Bob Stratsburg I would be happy to share the old version 0.6 with you. It's not complete and has some issues but I'm glad you enjoy the experience. Here is a link:

Thanks mate! I'll give it a go. Might be a bit as things have been busy.

Totally hear you about life and its tortured path. I'm glad to hear you have found and made this outlet. I hope you're managing whatever else you have going on. It's tough out there, unpredictable. So it's a nice feeling to see an update, hear from a dev who's been silent for a bit.

Always enjoyed the game and had looked forward to the updates. The visuals, audio, and the overall nostalgic vibe, harkening back to younger times, really set this one apart. In light of what you've said, that makes a bit more sense now.

Keep it up! Looking forward to what you can do with the revamp.
