Oh god, the classic: "Is there a walkthrough?" Ugh... the stuff of nightmares!

I too hope for things to change for the better, for me, for all of you and for the other creators out there who's future work and goals are hanging in the balance.

For me, I've been blessed, you've been with me since the beginning, my friend and there really is NO AMOUNT OF MONEY that can replace you or those like you (Twistty, DA22, Forix, Haast, Ennoch, Solomon Grundy, Avaron1974, Knight_of_the_lance, Maviarab, Catwashere, yltohawk, Ayhsel and so many more), who have been by my side since day one and have patiently waited and supported me in more ways that just financially, which is one of the REAL REASONS that despite... what... 4 spinal surgeries and 1 shoulder rebuild surgery, that I am still here, still working and trying.

Also to keep my word which I gave all of you, day one. :giggle:

As for the censorship that is taking place, I think I will be safe and have... ideas... on how I can circumvent the crackdown and still earn some money... but, yeah, just got to keep on rolling!! ;)
Wow, I'm extremely flattered. Sure, I've been around for a while, but I really don't post all that often, so the fact that you include me in a list like that is touching. Thanks for that.

And, for the record, I've stuck around because I love your work. Keep doing your thing, my dude.

i recommend releasing a non censored version on here and a censored version on the sites that require it. that way people can choose which version they want.

Not possible for me, I don't write and create "Boy meets girl(s), falls and sticks dick in her" games.

There is an incredible amount of effort that would have to be done to create both a 'censored' and 'uncensored' version of a game... not just programing, but in my case, I would have to also rewrite many scenes or the story would just be a gibberish mess and also would double my current artwork level...

...second, why would I write a story or create a game that I couldn't tell in my way... particularly when there are others out there who are able to tell similar stories, have similar content and have similar art who can?

This isn't being exercised evenly, for if it was, the outcry would be far, far greater than what it is, and it is pretty great right now, but the outcry is nowhere what it would be if it was George R. R. Martin's "Game of Thrones", VC Andrew's "Flowers in the Attic", Tabitha King's "Small World", Jeannette Walls' "Glass Castle" and many, many, many others.

Though, honestly... the way these nuts work, it will only be a matter of time till they get to those too... better to attack and start small, get followers who will agree with the concept that they are doing right and saving the world from itself... and then guide that mass towards more popular areas... that's how censorship works.

I'm in the same boat, I'm trying to push a censored DEMO on Steam, they still haven't approved the page. Censoring the entire game to fit within those bs rules is not feasible, but a short censored demo to draw players to the full game hosted elsewhere might work.

Hey, thank you so much for your kind words.

How has your back been? And yes, we keep waiting hahaha although I hope the current situation hasn't made the wait longer.

Also, amazing post in twitter (will never call it X) about the line of money and those Internet Merchant Accounts. The question now is how do we figure out who those accounts are so people can go and knock on their door

anyway, if there Is anything I can do to help, let me know. My evil minions are not the most efficient amd smarts of the bunch, but they are quite passionate. Just skip minion number 9. That guy is a liability.

Just speaking truth, you've all kept up with me, supported me and been patient... totally the reason that I keep trying!

As for the back... it is better than its been, but still enough that the wife won't let me near stairs right now and need to use the rollator that Sierra was kind enough to get me when I had one of my back surgeries. Though, the swelling and bruising I had is slowly diminishing, thankfully, making life a little easier on me.

Which also means, taking less painkillers... not off of them completely, yet, but less mushy-headed.

As for the post on Twitter, yeah... unbelievable the amount of views, likes, shares and even discussions about my post among YouTube content people!

Spent many of years, particularly when I ran Renderotica, constantly trying to meet the expectations of the processors and even having to change processors... it was one big shell game and exercise in frustration, so that experience paid off in responding to Mastercard's reply to the public outcry.

Helping people to understand the process, the corporate double-speak and stuff, helps to give them the tools they need to, like us, stand up against this censorship and removal of First Amendment Rights in favor of Corporate Ethics and morality clauses that, clearly, need to be changed.

My goal will always remain the same, get the game done and get it out to everyone... hopefully, when I do, things will have moved to a place where I can release it on Steam... if not, I will find a way to still make money from my work on it... whether by donation or some other way.

But as I do, if I need help, will certainly let you know, thank you!! :giggle:

Incidentally, at least some of those "profit-making" sites (*cough*Patreon*cough*) go way beyond any reasonable measure to police your activity outside of their platform (i.e. banning your account if they discover you distribute the kind of stuff they disapprove of… again, outside of their platform :HideThePain:)

This may have been talked about already, but I think a international crypto replacement for a patron type website would be a good first step. It would be easier to grow organically than a storefront. Then perhaps once you get enough traction, make a storefront connected to the website, or go completely separate and make the storefront.

The reason I say this, is because you could start relatively small with this type of website, compared to the storefront. Even with like 5 devs using it, people would start getting value out of it. It would open it up to where Japanese creators could easily monetize internationally which the payment processors are making it incredibly difficult to do now. You could develop a natural pipeline from game dev to the storefront over time, and build trust in the website over time.

Absolutely, that's why I think a "Patreon" type website would be easier to do than a storefront atleast out the gate. Just a handful of devs having it in addition to their Patreons and Fanzias would be enough to start building trust. And trust would be absolutely necessary because the ability to just rugpull with something involving crypto seems to be ever present.

Obviously in the main way to fight this is through legislation, but the movement to censor seems to be gaining traction as fast as people are rising up against it. Or atleast their "shouting" seems to being heard by payment processors.

Sooooo..... I've changed the idea in a way but in a way to try and help developers, first to remove any sort of 'one man' (Because it was turning into me) way that one person holds all the money. I set out with this idea because I wanted it to be co-owned and that way secure, providing enough support for developers where applicable, but also to develop a level of trust. And whilst I of course wouldn't do anything negative towards anyone, I didn't like the idea of it being just me. Secondly, I wanted to be able to get games out there and to be available in more places than just trying to get traffic to a site.

I've already built a small demo of the app working and the database.

Here is the pitch
Ember Games is a mobile companion app built for story-driven creators, it is a unified hub where players can discover, launch, and follow visual novels and interactive stories from independent developers.

The app itself is safe for the App Store and Google Play, since it doesn’t host or distribute adult content directly. Instead, it acts as a catalogue and launcher, connecting to the developer’s web-hosted builds (Ren’Py HTML exports, Patreon, or SubscribeStar links).

Users browse games, read safe summaries, and jump directly to the full experience via your hosted version, ensuring compliance and accessibility.

Right now, visual novel developers face major friction:

Steam and Itch.io limit discoverability.
Patreon / SubscribeStar lack proper browsing or mobile experience.
iOS users are largely locked out from playing HTML games directly.

My idea, is that Ember Games solves all of this.
Play seamlessly on both mobile and PC with synced progress.
Enjoy cross-device continuity (pick up where they left off).
Access your game easily on iOS, without worrying about app restrictions.
Skip downloads — just tap and play.

Creator Tier Integration
Link your Patreon or SubscribeStar directly for exclusive access.
Offer mobile unlock codes, early builds, or behind-the-scenes content.
Add a new “Mobile Access Tier” for Ember Games users.
Sponsored Listings & Featured Spots
Pay to promote your titles inside the app to hopefully, thousands of engaged fans.
Affiliate Traffic
Track clicks to your own store pages (Steam, Itch.io, etc.).
Gain insights into player behaviour and conversion.
Optional Ember Premium
Ad-free browsing and cosmetic perks for players through in-app purchases.

Developer Benefits

No platform censorship risk
You keep full control over your hosting and monetization
Firebase-powered backend for authentication, analytics, and ratings
Built-in Safe Mode toggle for NSFW filtering
Cross-device support — play on PC, Android, or iOS instantly
Instant updates without resubmitting to stores
Cross-platform with React Native, ready for both iOS and Android

App Store Compliance

Ember Games contains no NSFW or adult media.
It functions as a directory and launcher, only showing safe metadata.
External NSFW content is accessed via verified age check and external links — fully compliant with Google and Apple policies.

This approach mirrors how Reddit, Twitter, and OnlyFans apps are approved while still connecting users to adult creators and content externally.

Absolutely and that’s the elephant in the room.

Even if we use adult-compliant processors like CCBill or SegPay, they’re still ultimately tethered to Visa/Mastercard policies, and as we’ve seen before, it only takes one policy shift or public scandal for those dominoes to fall.

That’s why I think the only sustainable option is to support multiple payment methods from day one, so we’re not reliant on a single chokepoint. For example:
  • Card → wallet top-ups through processors like CCBill or Paxum (when allowed)
  • Crypto (BTC, ETH, stablecoins) — already widely used in NSFW circles
  • Direct SEPA transfers or even prepaid vouchers if we get big enough
  • Fallback options: gift codes, game tokens, etc.

No one solution is bulletproof though, but if we diversify from the start, we’re at least more resilient than being fully exposed through Stripe or PayPal like some devs are now.

Worst-case, even if Visa pushes a processor to drop us, we’d still have crypto + alternative flows to keep the doors open. It’s not perfect, but it’s better than relying on Steam to stay brave forever.

Open to other ideas too, it’s clear this has to be baked into the foundation if we’re going to build something that lasts.
Feels like the biggest issue is around jurisdiction, and where this legal entity would be based to not fall afoul a ton of annoying laws regarding user generated content, forced identification and more. Not to mention anything registered as "adjacent to adult-themes" tend to get a lot more scrutiny, pushing up legal costs too.

Moving from one locked garden to two others (App Store and Google Play) doesn't feel like a move towards progress. Shouldn't this just be a website instead so it can truly remain independent? Apple will try to get rid of it as soon as it gets any attention, regardless if it's OK in the current App Store guidelines. It doesn't seem like Google is as puritan as Apple yet, but not exactly a solid foundation if you wanna build something resilient.
