I have heard many interesting discussions regarding NTR here. As someone who’s interested in NTR and vanilla, I’ve always wanted to try my hand at making at a visual novel.

Without further ado, I’d like to introduce my debut visual novel: Heartsworn Abyss!
My priorities are simple: quality, believable writing, cute art, and emotional voice acting!

Heartsworn Abyss is a survival-thriller VN set in the mysterious island-nation of Miyogawa. A major metallurgical breakthrough has brought the unassuming nation to the world stage, and a young couple suddenly find themselves thrust in the middle of a major feud between big countries and even bigger corporations.

~CHARACTERS~
Rei Tsukiyora: Proactively safeguard your girlfriend from evil bastards. Use dialog, smart threats, violence, whatever you have at your disposal.
Akari Hashimoto: Avoid capture from kidnappers and… “persistent gentlemen.” Use your wits and weapons on hand to ward off the myriad enemies coming your way.

For maximum immersion, both main characters have complete, hand-drawn character sprites with full voice-acting.



Should you fail to protect Akari, an NTR scene will commence.
Both good and NTR routes are high-stakes, exciting affairs, so you won’t be missing out sticking to one path or the other.

It will pretty much be a Japanese game later—full Japanese localization will soon be coming!

This will definitely be a thing too! I will say that Akari protects Rei just as much as he protects her—and maybe even more!
Chapter 5 and 6 will dive deeply into their relationship and introduce some harrowing moments!
There are some heartbreaking things Akari must to do bail Rei out of his own personal troubles—but the method is up to you!

Akari does have some yandere moments later, haha.

Yes, it’s crazy expensive, but I want to treat readers to something nice after playing so many unvoiced works myself.
But yeah, it's really hard to get heard out there… almost everyone that played the game liked it, so I’m confident in my game’s quality at least.
It’s why I opened the Patreon, to maintain the same consistent quality and voice acting that people have come to expect. I want to add things like animation in the future too, if *knock on wood* we do really well.

Hi, I've been aware of this game for a long time, but have never commented before.

My thoughts are that it is good you are attempting to make a game with high quality art and voice acting, but that it is a mistake to do this as your first game. It is better both practically and financially to create a game with less expensive assets to build your credentials, your audience and your income. Hangovercat for example made The Edge Of, a free and small NTR game and that propelled him into being able to make Promise Best Left Unkept with a massive patreon as a result.

I honestly think you will find more success with this game by pausing it, doing something else on a small scale and then resuming it.

However, I need to let you know that pandering to both vanilla and NTR likers is always a very bad idea. I know it feels like it makes sense to double dip, but the result is that neither will play your game. Vanilla lovers will see the heroine irrevocably tainted by NTR, while NTR lovers ultimately want to see the heroine succumb to corruption. The presence of other routes distract from this. The amount of audience you gain is significantly less than the amount you lose for trying to have both.

And since I am trying to help I guess I'll also add that this is not the definition of Anti-NTR. An Anti-NTR game is a pure vanilla game, just with the added element of the heroine being saved from a typical NTR scenario first. Maybe protag rescues heroine from a rape scenario or something. That kind of thing. The presence of actual NTR means by definition it cannot be Anti-NTR.

has this actually been codified anywhere or is it an attempt to coin a new subgenre? i can only find some subreddit that describes itself as anti-ntr seemingly about what you mention, and some anti-ntr talk aligning with oglaf on some japanese forum

I have seen it floated in a few Japanese boards but it’s not really a major subgenre yet because most NTR works are still 100% NTR.
For many games that do have "avoidable" NTR, it’s more a side route or optional thing where you miss like 90% of the CGs. I have seen NTR games where the “vanilla route” ends five minutes in—is this even "avoidable" when the entire game is skipped? Some people use “reverse-NTR” and “not NTR” to describe hybrid vanilla-NTR works, but again, this is still a fresh category.

At times, I do think the EN community delves too deep into semantics. Basically, in every thread concerning NTR there are people adamant to make everyone else conform to their own arbitrary definition of what it is. As for the Japanese, they just slap NTR onto anything that causes jealous feelings (see JAV where it’s used quite liberally.)

Is my application of ”anti-NTR” correct? Maybe, maybe not. But I know what I mean, and you know what I mean. No point getting into an internet argument about it (especially if one isn’t even interested in the game in the first place).

I like the term anti-NTR, it is clever and to me almost immediately made clear what was meant.

I was aware you developed a NTR game, (too bad, for me) and it is only by coming up with the anti-NTR term that I'd even look into the topic and maybe also the game.
Succeeding with a vanilla (or even "virgin") route when it is difficult to pull off to me is satisfying.

Now I am irrelevant, but maybe it'll be the same for some other potential players who can /will back your game in patreon etc.
