Imouto Life Monochrome v2.01 is a management and life simulator made by inusuku. As the older brother, you are tasked with spending your days living alongside your younger sister with the purpose of improving your relationship. The art does the heavy lifting here, with many images and sprites brimming with cuteness and innocence. To progress the game, you interact daily with your sister, very slowly increasing the many metrics through actions like talking, head patting, hugging, and so forth. On weekends, you can perform a special act for more points or go shopping for consumable items or improvements. The game has many semi-hidden mechanics and interactions directly dependent on moods or numbers. It can be quite frustrating trying to properly learn what makes the game tick for efficient progress, since everything feels a bit janky on this engine. The biggest problem is the excessive grind required to access the intimate mechanics. You need to raise stats that are not quite clear on how they work while in constant risk of messing something up and losing bits of progress. That, in conjunction with the incredibly slow dialogue, unnecessary loading, and overall lack of flow, significantly hurts enjoyment. When you finally reach the required numbers for night activities, the game shows its limitations in interactions padded with gorgeous anime artstyle, wrapped in every anime trope your mind can summon. If Imouto Life had gameplay that respected your personal time more, this little game would have deserved much higher praise.
