No, not really. Just playing the same game a number of these guys do. If you're getting a check every month for doing nearly nothing, instead of working hard and actually producing something of tangible value, what motivation is there to change that strategy (other than personal integrity of course, but there's not an abundance of that to be found these days is there)? It is support, not payment, so there are no negatives in their court, just ride the cash wave while providing as little as can be gotten away with from update to update.
There are certainly developers with the integrity to take the support they receive and use it to build and improve their craft. Ultimately I'd say they are the ones who will be the up and coming developers with the new great games that will sell on commercial platforms. As for the devs who seem to adapt the philosophy of riding the patreon train while delivering menial, sometime even insulting updates just to keep the ball rolling? I think you'll find, over time, that they will be the ones who will linger on patron sites forever, and never deliver anything to give them credible standing among other quality developers. Ultimately I predict they will likely fade away into obscurity.
Dedication, hard work and integrity are things that foster their own rewards. Lack of those things, well they foster their own rewards, too. All that's left for us to do as players is follow the devs on the better path. Bashing doesn't help, neither does name calling, and the dev's that take the latter path will not change, and in fact justify their methods with righteous indignation. So the bashing is pointless, and so is the criticism. Those that care don't need it, and those that don't will launch an attack on you, so it serves no purpose.
