That's the same thought/theory pattern that most of us on f95zone have had for a while now because Fallen Eros hit it big with this game; he doesn't want his golden goose to die yet, so now he's just milking it for its eggs. This theory is further supported by the fact that, according to the various fan platforms like Patreon, itch.io, Steam, Reddit, Twitter and some others, his new game "Lustful Wife Aiko" hasn't been as popular as this one.
Regarding Aiko, people probably think it's going to be the same shit all over again as it seems that way so far. If it can deliver more entertainment, there is a chance the situation will improve. For sure, there is a good chance iwh was finished the long time ago, but then they decided to split it into more games so future (and already made) content from this one can be used there with more profit.
I genuinely believe that the way he has been milking IWH and his general anti consumer attitudes have soured a lot of his fans who would've been excited for his new game otherwise. He's now in a dilemma: a sizable chunk of his current supporter base could be only hanging around to see IWH completed because they don't want to repeat the milking cycle with a new game and will immediately drop him once that's done. Had he just finished his previous projects and then swiftly moved on to the next he could've built a reputation of reliably delivering good quality games in his niche, but now everyone will just remember him as the money hungry, DRM-crazy dev who spends all his time trying to prevent a renpy game from being pirated and then delivers two static images after months of waiting.

I think the characters and genre of the new game are not as favourable/likeable as my Indecent Wife Hana. I think Fallen Eros fans liked the older milf and younger shota dynamic, whereas the new game has the hentai standard beta cuck husband, fuckboy gyaru-o, and hot female lead. I know the character design of my Indecent Wife Hana isn't anything new; again, you have the hentai standard beta cuck husband, hot milf, and just a normal shota, not even a huge dick one, just a normal one. But because there are so few games where the shota and milf dynamic is the main focus and the art is decent (not that horrible 3D face stuff), I think that's why the fans have stuck around so long. This point is further supported by the poll Fallen Eros just did for the next update where the fans picked "Dominant Yuma".
