More likely you need decent hardware even more than decent software skills. There are two main approaches to AI support in this game: either you own an API key (which you need to pay for) and connect to that server in preferences, entering your key, or you download and install KoboldCPP, a model for it to run, launch it (and keep it running, obviously) and add its localhost address in preferences exactly in the same way. Depending on the model you choose, you'll need good hardware to run the AI locally through KoboldCPP. I use it as my only source of active heating during winter. And it works flawlessly in game, even generating NPC actions. The good thing about it is that NPC actions triggered by AI can interrupt the conversation and start interactions, which is cool because otherwise, you have to accept NPC interactions if you don't want to be leading all the time, usually resulting in a loss of influence for you.
