Sure all the mechanics are there, goals are defined, etc, but giant wall of ??? portraits tells me that there should be much more, even if that's an illusion. Otherwise I would judge it as a simple, short game.

Sure, and Altered Carbon could have had a third season, but it didn't. It's a show that still stands on its own merits though.

I'm saying the game is plenty functional and has at least a decent spread of characters. I suppose you could call the game, in its current state, a proof of concept.

But Joody already said they wanted to revisit it but were working other projects currently. So who knows when this might get another update; I wouldn't hold my breath. That seemed to be the idea of releasing the latest version with more modding support: The community can add more content if it wants to. However, very little modding seems to have been done, and what little there is, is located on the discord.

What's the point of modding when the actual game isn't finished yet, i've seen other "captivity" looking like projects get abandoned now and then, also the plot wasn't complete there are a lot of holes and missing content with potential mechanics like pregnancy, flirting, prostitution and many more, all you can do by now is to show boobs and get fucked once in a while..., there are like 2 or 3 different repetitive sex scenes, do you call that a fully functional game?

That's most games on this website. Most are unfinished, and many of them that include mod support (that are popular enough) get mods. Degrees of Lewdity is a good example. Clearly there isn't enough interest in Joody's game for people to make noteworthy mods for it.

Yes, it has multiple game mechanics and an explicit win state. There's nothing preventing you from reaching that win state, so it's functional. We can go back and forth on what defines a "fully functional game" and then we'll be digging into some weird arbitrary limit about how many features a game must have to be fully functional, which is a discussion that doesn't really have much of an end.

Not all games need to provide 40 hours of first-play-through content or whatever. Some games are small, some are large. We'd all like the game to have more features, but if Joody never updates the game any further, I'd say the game stands as a functional game.

Instead, a more useful discussion is: The game is sold for $10 on itch.io. Is it worth $10 in its current state? That's a question that actually matters. No, I don't think so. $10 is food money for me. It might be worth $10 to someone else. I'm sure you wouldn't consider it worth $10. However, paying $10 means in the future (afaik) that the customer is entitled to any updates that get put on itch.io, so that's likely why Joody didn't set the price lower than $10. But updates aren't guaranteed, so.

Mind you, this is a game piracy site, so most people on here aren't paying $10 after they pirate it.

I wasn't thinking about neither length nor the cost with my first comment. Most of my steam library is full of games that have maybe 2-4 hours of gameplay. Hell I grew up on touhou where 20 minutes later the game was over. However, they all have good replay value. Some are fun to speed run. Others have zany challenges. A few are buggy nightmares in the best possible way. Occasionally there's even mods or procedural generation to make each experience different. Thus my total playtime for most of those games ballon to 60+ hours. I paid $10-$15 for each of them and I don't regret it a single purchace.

None of that is here with this game. It commits the cardinal sin of not being fun. The base game loop is tedius and spent mostly waiting. Waiting for a customer to make an order. Waiting for them to finish their drink. Hoping they didn't get whisky dick and can get it up enough to fuck you. The sound design reminds me more of a cavern than a tavern. The link between stamina and sex scene time is asinine. The most efficient way of getting a sex scene is to clean a room then back up into customers until they get inticed enough to grab you which can take up to a minute. All of that and few sex scenes aren't even arousing. The character abilities, the reason I played beyond the first round, were all underwealming and didn't change the way I played. The fact it only took an hour of my time to comlete each character was bittersweet.

I stuck around because this game is so close to actually being good, but one boneheded design choice after another stops it from achieving that. I stuck around because those question marks gave me hope that the game gets something worth returning. Frankly, I'm thinking that was a mistake. Thanks for showing me that.

Yeah I was hoping that modders would kind of run with it and expand on the core game loop, but that hasn't happened, so

I'm going to unsub from this thread, and hope that maybe joody updates it in a year or two to make it more compelling, and then I can pleasantly surprised if I stumble upon it again later.

Yeah I get what you mean, I also really like the base formula we have here, but it lacks content and variety, and the gameplay loop needs to get beefed up as you advance.
