That has a lot more to do with the differences between Abrahamic religions and Buddhism. Although, being able to essentially just say "no" to Muslims does have a lot to do with Japan having a relative monopoly on porn compared to other Asian nations, among other things.

This is not very important, because the Japanese tradition comes from Shintoism, not Buddhism.

In Russia, the situation is similar. The Muslims of central Russia are absolutely Europeanized, including in terms of relations between men and women. I know this firsthand, I have many Muslim acquaintances and relatives.

When you say "Japan is not ______" in terms of religion it is relevant. Culture overrides all but Japanese culture is Japanese roots with a bunch of American, British, and Dutch toppings.

This is partly correct and partly incorrect, while Buddhism was / is large in Japan, Shinto was a main influence early on. Also you are wrong about the Emperor having no power, he had more power as a ruler than almost any other ruler types in other countries.
The system was setup so that they didn't fight to become Emperor, they fought to be Shogun. The Shogun served the Emperor and the Diamyo fought for the Shogunate, leaving the Emperor rarely in danger and his will was absolute though he rarely became directly involved. This was only after the unification of Japan though.

I shouldn't limit "misogynistic hentai" to just Japan. There is chinese hentai, korean hentai as well and the misogynistic themes are similar.
I personally think it is because the traditional role of the woman or wife in Asia is still more mainstream than in the west where you get called a fucking creep for suggesting a woman should go be a housewife and make babies. That is perfectly normal in the rest of the world.

Yeah I agree with what you said, and also there is always this weird duality with racists everyhwere, both in the east and the west.

Such broad statements are usually not the way to go.
Yes, there is a lot of misogynistic hentai, there also is a lot of hentai that isn't misogynistic.
In general, I think a lot of porn tends to be slightly misogynistic, because it is mostly consumed by males, but not in the way that there is active hate or dislike, but that females are often just treated as a means to an end.
That goes for hentai as well as others.
What I think makes some people think Japanese porn is particularly misogynistic is that so far in Japan they don't quite act as woke as in most of the Western world. While in the US and Western Europe people even try to tell comedians what they are allowed to make fun of, in Japan you can still find a lot of stereotypes that are seen as negative and offensive just plain out in the open.
While in the West, tons of people act like a 16-year-old having sex with a 20-year-old is basically rape, (even though most countries still have 16 or even lower as age of consent), in Japan they still show the male fantasy of middle-aged guys going after older schoolgirls unashamed and unabashedly. And that goes for a lot of other stuff too, like rape porn, or corruption
And I think another factor is that Japanese porn treats fetishes as what they often are, fantasies. People who like incest, rape, guro etc. aren't normally about to murder their family to then rape the corpses.
In the West you have people who act as if you are an actual rapist, cannibal, murderer or whatever because you post stories in a forum.

OTOH, you can definitely see that Japanese culture tends to be less inclusive. Women who haven't married before they are 30 are seen as flawed, many people look down on foreigners, queer culture is widely shown as caricatures, racial stereotypes are still very much a thing.
Your social standing is more important, traditional values are more permeated through society.
And that more conservative, less progressive, less inclusive and more restrictive culture of course also shows in porn, like in other media.

Don't get me wrong, these aren't blanket statements, I am not saying all of Japan is like that, all Japanese are like that, Japanese culture is completely intolerant and restrictive, etc.. there are no absolutes here.
It's more like generally speaking you have a bit more of that there than in the West. I've loved Japanese culture, history and media since I was a young teenager, so I am not speaking from a place of dislike, just giving my opinion about what I encountered over the years, while being a fan of Japanese media and culture.

As for the second part of the question, yes and no. I think that as long as you see the difference between fantasy and reality, there's nothing wrong with liking that stuff, otoh, if consuming it makes you share the sentiments in it, then no, that's not a good thing.
