Thx, I didn't think about documented statistics, was just personal experience from seeing games.Out of 6225 only 1691 games by your criteria are made in RPGM. Which is around 27%. However, interestingly, 2064 games by your criteria are made in Ren'Py, which is around 33% Out of 2064 Ren'Py games, 699 are abandoned compared to 200 abandoned made in RPGM.

So, what do you get? That you're absolutely wrong!
I ran the numbers.Out of 6225 only 1691 games by your criteria are made in RPGM. Which is around 27%. However, interestingly, 2064 games by your criteria are made in Ren'Py, which is around 33% Out of 2064 Ren'Py games, 699 are abandoned compared to 200 abandoned made in RPGM.
Engine | Made | "Dark" |
Total | 15474 | 6229 (40.25%) |
RPGM | 2783 | 1692 (60.80%) |
Ren'Py | 5800 | 2065 (35.60%) |
Unity | 2636 | 751 (28.49%) |
So I am not crazy after all!I ran the numbers.
Engine Made "Dark" Total 15474 6229 (40.25%) RPGM 2783 1692 (60.80%) Ren'Py 5800 2065 (35.60%) Unity 2636 751 (28.49%)
Turns out RPGmaker games are significantly more likely to be dark using whatever criteria you were using.
You run the numbers out of total games, I run the numbers from "Dark" genre, he wasn't asking what % of total games is, he was asking what % of Dark games is RPGM.I ran the numbers.

Nah, essentially what he said is that most RPGM games are Dark, not that most Dark games are RPGM.So I am not crazy after all!
I've never said that, but you do you.Are you seriously arguing that over 40% of the games on this site have "the darkest stories"?
I am curious why that is relevant? Is it because dark games are not as popular so people who make dark games don't want to invest a lot of resources and time into a niche audience? It's probably just because RPGM is easily accessible, with not many learning curves to overcome.
Spread between Ren'Py and RPGM is around even when it comes to Dark games, so I wouldn't say it's anything unusual, it's that ren'py games are more oftan abandoned than RPGM.I am curious why that is relevant? Is it because dark games are not as popular so people who make dark games don't want to invest a lot of resources and time into a niche audience?
It's not relevant. Western developers don't make their games too dark because they fear censorship from crowdfunding platforms. Japanese developers do not have that problem. Japanese developers also tend to prefer RPGmaker, which is why you see all the darkest themes on RPGmaker.I am curious why that is relevant?
