Spoiler alert: MC is just a player of a very popular game, like a twitch streamer who also makes his own mods to help in his totally solo campaign—the glitch is that the campaigns, even though they are unique and encouraged by the game developers to be shaped around the unique parameters of the player, as each player has his own brain and his own mental memories and images that get sucked into the game and thus the experience is one elaborate fever dream, drawn specifically out of the player mind - these campaigns are rendered in real time, online, on the company proprietary servers, and are monitored for a lot of parameters that the developers use to tweak their game and the servers in order to allow for more engagement, more real feels of the player base and more addictive, so players spend more and more time inside- so during one gaming session where MC is using his custom avatar - a skin swap and a couple of scripts injected into the game to allow for the ingame helper to be someone he knows and his mind remembers - because she is in his mind, the game will recognize her as his companion helper because he made her and he is constantly coding and working on her - Qoai - Well, the game servers start taking notice of her using up a lot of their resources to draw the game environment and she starts commanding entire server farms - at which point the game developers all take notice and instantly start scrambling to stop him from essentially farming more and more of their servers for his solo gaming sessions and endangering the whole gaming endeavor globally, as we can imagine long stand by times or timed-out sessions for other players who would be incapable of using the game if their servers are suddenly used exclusively to render and serve Qoai for the one solo gaming session of MC.
This being said, MC is only propped up to be whomever the developers need in order to keep him off their servers and they try to turn a true Agent Smith from cracking down the whole Matrix, by literally giving him the absolute power of Neo and trying tirelessly to make him adhere to their cause. MC is never a game developer, never anything more than the necessary evil that is still letting Qoai run amok in the game - like some roided up Agent Smith from the MAtrix - while Merovingian, Morpheus, Trinity and even Qoai - Agent Smith - are all trying to use him for their continued survival

From day one I ever played this game, Qoai as a female Amazo amalgamated with Sue Storm and Gene Grey would have rocked as a true sidekick for the rest of the game - even making her a scarlet witch to MC as her dumb imaginary child or the emma frost to MC as some evil mastermind - those were the fever dreams sparked by the absolute wonderful first release.

I am positively bouncing with joy right now over the realization that I can finally start moving the story forward and getting to all the good (fucked up, pretentious, melodramatic) parts!
What ever-lasting depression of haplessness is MC getting shoved into next?

She'll be getting one soon! She's got a fun spot in the story, and while she'll mostly be the resident dommy-mommy, she'll be getting some vanilla-ish content as well.
So, since a lot of this won't explicitly make it into the script, and it's all plot-device bullshit anyways, here's a mini-breakdown of how the simulation things work/what Qai was/what Qai is, buried in layers of spoilers based on how far into the game you've got.

Maybe it was just my game, but was this update only like 2 minutes long?
I was in the house, had a quick chat with Qai about the changes, then she left, and update ends. Looking at the changelog, and none of that stuff was in my version of the update. Or is this all just back changes? So, have to start over?

What was the last version you played? (I'm realizing now I should add a disclaimer to the top post that you'll need a save from before Hanna's sim scene)

There won't be a lot of new content for you then, sorry. I swapped out Hanna and Candi's scenes for Nat and Sara, reworked the final scene (with Qai in the house), and sprinkled a few other small scenes along the way. Going from 0.5, there's maybe 500-ish new renders.

It was never needed...
I think it will still work.
I'm talking to someone right now on Discord who is having trouble with old saves that I thought would've worked. If anyone else has issues with saves from before Hanna's sim scene - let me know! Once I figure out the issue, I'll put out a hotfix.

Use an older save. This doesn't build on 0.5, it's the first public release since 0.4.
