This model sucks and society is moving away from it (trying to at least) for a reason.
Would you rather pay a monthly fee for a music app, or buy every individual album and song that you want to listen to like it was with itunes? At around a dollar each? You want your music library costing several grand?
Would you rather pay for Netflix or go buy every movie you wanna watch on amazon for 10-20 bucks?
The costs quickly become ridiculous.
This already exists elsewhere in porn and it sucks. People pay 15 bucks for a picture and 100 bucks a video with onlyfans ppv shit. All for a fap or 2. Crazy. It's much better to pay a monthly sub and expect enough content during that time to justify the price.
Except your example does not fit here because it's more similar to the approach you are criticizing.
A developer only creates one project at a time, so you don't get to pick from thousands of brand-new items every month (like a streaming service), you just get one a month/many months, whether you like it or not.
I don't have any subscription of any kind because I just watch movies for free, as has been the normality for 20 years on the Interwebs. However, while I can understand how those with a lot of money to burn on entertainment might subscribe to a service that offers a variety of options every day, I don't understand why people would subscribe to developers who only give them a single item when it's ready (not even one per week).
Even though I appreciate the work of many developers, paying so much money for a single item is beyond my comprehension.
But if that is profitable to content creators, well done!
