I think its some kind of anti-piracy measure. Try going to appdata in your C disk and deleting the renpy game data

Unless youve got something else that points to it being an anti-piracy measure, I highly doubt its an anti-piracy measure. Whats likely happening is the old game data just isnt compatible with the current build, and is causing problems. This is actually pretty common in games (not just renpy) where old files start bugging out, and you just need a fresh install.
