It was decided a while back that those formats were used the most for infected and harmful fake torrents so KAT crew decided to ban them from anyone except Verified & Elite Uploaders to upload.

New Uploading Policy

Hello everyone!
We got some news for you. First of all due to an overwhelming number of fakes we decided to allow uploading of .RAR and .WMV files only for verified uploaders.

Second - with a heavy heart we decided to forbid uploading for all new users. If you want to upload torrents, you will need to apply.
We understand that this might be an unpopular decision, but our goal has always been keeping KickassTorrents clean and friendly, so we have to restrict the upload feature and keep the people who use it to upload fakes or frauds out of our website.

All users registered before January 31st 2014 have upload rights. Only users registered after this date will have to apply for upload privileges.

.7z files should be fine though?
Or is it just the old .ZIP that is recommended?

.7z, and .zip are fine. As are most other packing methods.

Thanks F95. I just asked another Smod, but that's far more official.

Edit - There was/is some vulnerabilities with .RARs as well, that are less than friendly.

What do you mean? Registrations don't close and certainly aren't now. Your account will have to be approved, but that should take long right now.

What is irritating me is, that if you open katcr.co it redirects you to forum instead of torrents. It's silly but it took me a week till I dicovered "oh yeah - torrents aren't disabled .. there is header to them ..."

There's a button on the top left bar to go to the torrent area.

You aren't the first to mention this, but for now I don't see it changing. Hard to know what the techs actually have planned tho.

Reasonably certain that button is fairly new. So that would probably explain it.

It seems like the site has annoying pop ups that take me away from the tab. It's better to disable it for having a better user experience.

That is out of my control and I've brought it up before to the admins. Believe me, I'm not a fan of them either, but only see 1 banner ad while logged in and my adblocker disabled.

Just like the old site however. If logged in you'll see almost no ads. uBlock Origin also does a good job otherwise.
