I put a few hours into trying to play Katia and Dungeon Quest, and here's just my general understanding of things:
- If you're captured by goblins, reload or restart the game. It takes a really, really long time to escape from the ropes while bypassing checks using charisma. Its really long, pretty boring, and just puts you out elsewhere on a new map.
- Before a fight happens, you can use STRENGTH (Katia flexing) to actually deal damage to an enemy. If the enemy goes first, you will 100% lose if it's anything but a regular goblin that happens to miss you. Veteran goblins and zombies can kill you in one shot (and neither creature takes you prisoner, so it's game over)
- The translations are not terrible, but they desperately need some polish just to help readers understand what's happening. I highly suggest the dev use the following format instead of the current one:
Katia: "Please, let me go."
I have to get out of here, no matter what it takes.
(Katia frees one of her hands and shoves the goblin away)
[The log is empty]
- I'm sure there's more to the game that I have not seen, but after passing through 80 or so maps, 2 camps, 2 captures, and a few story scenes, there are very few sex scenes in the game right now that you can survive. Sometimes trees can kill you, zombies, plants, large goblins, warriors, etc, so be wary.
- The art style is okay, if you can get over the size of Katia's bodyparts (like her small head, fist-sized vagina, and comically enormous breasts). The developer has done a lot of work revamping Katia's face and expressions, which are pretty solid now, so don't expect the art to be finalized.
What gameplay changes would I suggest?
- Increase XP gains by 500,000%. I struggled so much to win 3 fights (against the guard at the bridge, against a rat, and against 3 goblins), and nearly caught a dozen or so bats, but didn't manage to reach level 2. All of my agility was spent and I only had 2 health left, but constantly got surrounded by goblins and zombies on every map. When I finally slept, I was attacked by a zombie at night and was helpless - it made me very irritated.
- Have every combat ability last for +1 round (agility lasts 2-3 rounds instead of 1-2). With Health, Stamina, and MP all being a problem, and with only having 4 uses of abilities, after one goblin fight you may be completely helpless unless you find a campfire. It'd be a lot more forgiving to increase the time those ability function.
- Add plants that restore various abilities. there's a lot of mushrooms and logs and plants in the game that do nothing, and letting Katia eat those plants (even if you can't put them in your inventory) to restore 1 use of a certain ability is an easy way to reward players for clicking on everything.
- Alternate escape from Goblin slavery. It takes SO LONG to get out of goblins slavery that you may as well just kill Katia or reload the game. Perhaps let Katia cut her ropes on the stones that prompt her to explain she cannot use a pickaxe, so the ropes can be weakened by 1-2 points. Perhaps let her use Charisma to convince a goblin to untie her hands for sex. Perhaps use Perception in rooms (a small percent chance) to find passageways away from the goblins. Perhaps use Strength to weaken the ropes as well (by 1 point per strength used, since your health will be so low after losing). Perhaps have Katia FAKE being asleep, at the cost of stamina, so she can sneak out while the goblins are asleep and only one goblin is on watch.
I didn't hate this game and I'm sorry its rating is so terribly low, but you have a ton of competition in the RPG Maker style - I'd sincerely and emphatically suggest you make the game a little more forgiving AT LEAST FOR NOW, so people can play the game, test things out, and find problems without dying at every bug or rat they come across.
Good luck!
