The art is very good, but I'm very sad that some of it are AI. To 2D devs, we very much don't care at all if your 2D art has defects because it's YOUR art and not AI crap, if you go around this website you will see many 2D devs with really bad art, but players still flock them because the game or story is great. This art is better than most, but it's ruined by being mixed together with AI "art". No offense to the dev, this is my encouragement to believe in your own 2D art.

Personally I'm fine with AI backgrounds in theory, but it really depends on what exactly the game is doing.
Sandbox game with a heavy-focus on puppeting npcs/situation? Yeah, makes sense.
When it's a plot/character-focused VN/game that references items/situation in the room, that's when the backgrounds become much more important IMO and can really take away something if they're filled with that AI weirdness.
I think this really depends on just how much experience the dev has with AI.
In KP's case it's kind of hard to comment on how it affects anything, since the game just started, but I at least thought they looked good and fit the characters so far, and wasn't really taken out of it.
I'm not quite sure how CocoaBoom is handling it. I know he explained it, but I can't tell if that's only related towards making the backgrounds look nice, or whether he's using AI assistance on the characters as well.

Thanks! Unfortunately, if I’d done it 100% by hand, I wouldn’t have been able to publish the game for another 3 or 4 months.
AI has become a real threat to artists — either you get on board with it or you get left behind.

Hi, Bowlcutcultmember
Sometimes it’s impossible not to get a little help from AI. I edit the images, especially the characters (rough sketching, editing, vectorizing, and painting — it’s a whole process, but I enjoy it). I have no idea how long it would’ve taken me to do all this 100% by hand.
Sometimes I look at games made entirely with AI and I feel outdated and at a disadvantage.
I think the main problem with AI is the avalanche of games getting released every single day.
