Ultimately, I'm sorry for the blunt wording and the misunderstanding. In spite of here being a pirate site through and through, I see it more as a forum of discussion; where there exists the need for more transparency between the playerbase, the Patrons, and the devs so one can make the proper decision whether a purchase/donation is worth the money or not.
Hey, thanks for that post and pointing few things out. Sorry for getting a bit defensive myself.

There are only two of us (+artists), our marketing budget is nonexistent, and while our fan base is dedicated, it’s still quite small. That’s why our only chance to gain visibility is to release the info about the game into the world as soon as possible and slowly, painstakingly gather players. We strive to be as transparent as possible with our project, and any shortcomings in this regard are simply oversights or a lack of awareness on our part—by no means are we trying to use any shady tactics or deceptive strategies.

You're right that the itchio page lacked information about what’s in the demo. I’ve added a paragraph there and updated the screenshots, clearly marking which scenes are not in the demo and which haven’t been implemented at all yet.

We want the game to be as good as possible (within our skills and budget), and that’s why, even though—as you pointed out—this site is mostly a hub for pirates, we check in to read feedback. We definitely don’t want to be seen as scammers.

This game is really interesting but devs are shooting themselves in the foot by making everything exclusive to patrons. The biggest games in this platform have been completely open, or with a single week delay for the public. It will grow exponentially more from that.

Shame.

I'll be honest, I have no idea what's the best "business strategy" for us. Of course, I'm checking out all the big guys to see what they do and if we could follow them, but every game seem to follow a different scenario. Some of them are essentially free to play with Patreon being the devs main source of income, some of them do exactly what we do - hand out the demo and work on a paid product that will be released at some point, but with early access behind a paywall. But why this works better for some and not for others? I have no idea.

All in all our fan base is still really small and we're just focusing on making the best game we can with Patreon just helping us fund the development, and Steam being the main source of income (when the game will be released).

Normally smaller fan base means you'd want to advertise to a bigger audience by spreading some stable game updates to the public while for example let Patreons have early access to finished beta updates and give them some voteing power on where to go with the next Update.
The only game makers that work like you already have some stable funds and fan base in my experience.

Well yeah, that's true. There were a couple of reasons we started that way, but I guess we just never re-evaluated our initial plans. And the truth is we never really thought that people will be so interested anyway, lol.
