I think you get the current month if you are subbed, and previous months have to be purchased off Gumroad.

I think he makes pricey to make people enter on his patreon. I mean, why to pay 13,99 on Gumroad when you can have the same monthly rewards for 5 USD on Patreon?
Not sure if it's a mistake or not, but it seems to work for him.
