In the new version i've experienced a bug where the flying hugger grabs you, and you can't do anything (don't know if it's a problem on my side or not.) But this bug seems to prevail after starting a new game for some reason.

Yep, that quest is slightly time consuming - you'll have to portal lamp to an area where there are some (and you can actually reach/get back from in your state) and have to walk a bit back. So far I think that its even more troublesome than fighting the toad boss because its just a bothersome event - though it does reward "virgin" runs.
