The 3d models are very bad, especially the main character, and he's still 14 years old and his 3d model definitely doesn't look like someone that age.
But the main problem, the images are all blurry, not at all sharp, and I downloaded it from the main post link, which as far as I know is not a compressed version, it's horrible to play the way it is.

Well, considering I started with absolutely nothing but a desire to teach myself the Python language and discovering the Ren'Py game engine I don't think it's that bad. This all came about because, at least to me, trying to learn something is difficult if you can't apply what you've learned right away.

This subject matter (story) is not mine and I don't claim it to be, but it was inspiration to apply lessons learned. Yes the author granted me permission to use his story.

The sprites and the artwork was created by me with my limited artistic talent. I do not claim to be nor do I want to be an artist. Most of the backgrounds came from Unsplash and pexels. The sprites were made with the makehuman app. For those background images containing the sprites, I used Gimp.

There are two, maybe three images that have a slight blur as I used a poor screen capture (windows) option and had to resize them. As far as the other images you think are blurry, might be (A) your screen is dirty or (B) you need better glasses.

As far as compressing, why? 120 something megabytes isn't huge or are you still on dialup perhaps?

I spent the last 7 months creating this. Most of that time was trying to find a way to create workable sprites and artwork. In that, I feel I've succeeded and I'm satisfied. I'd be more than happy to accept your help in providing the artwork.

Anyway, I do appreciate your comment and giving me the opportunity to explain a few things that I may have left unsaid.

I don't want a compressed version, I said I didn't download a compressed version to have such blurred images, for me, the images are very blurred, even the mc is blurred, I recommend you make them much clearer.

Chapter 2 is well under way and should be complete in about 3 weeks or less. Thank you for your patience :KappaPride:

You can make Renpy do what you want, that part of the mission is accomplished. That alone is worth it, and one can never have too many gay creators. So I'll try to be as constructive as possible.

I hope you use character and background definitions so that you can just replace the art at some point. I like the use of audio samples to indicate actions that would take too much effort to be shown (like a driving car), so that'sa good idea. Having that guy pee for a full minute in front of a closed toilet lid is still... unfortunate. I also think background sounds are essential, especially when you don't have a better source for music. So grab a few more!

You could cheat a little with the models and the backgrounds. A quick dirty example:

kitchen scene.png

I gave Jesse a hint of a cheap shadow outline here so that he blurs with the bg photo. You can also place a fake light source in front of the scene and the characters, a transparent overlay as the front layer of a scene. I overdid it on purpose here, and of course you can get far better results if you spend more than 10 minutes on it.

I don't know about the author of the story and if he would allow it, but I would cut out a few lines. Starting with the description of the two main characters since a) we can see what they look like and b) the description and the models simply don't match.

Maybe also all the "he said"-parts since it's obvious who said it. Another solution would be a different font for narration in general, or at least italics {i}{\i}. You can insert quotes by using \" or \' in your dialogue if the "he said"-parts remain. Since you didn't write it I'll abstain from commenting on the narrative itself.

Apart from that I like the enthusiasm, that also goes for the writing. Don't let people here discourage you.

Nobody has discouraged me yet as Chapter 2 nearing completion. I now have scrolling end credits using ATL, however I have an excessively long pause both before and after. I'll be working on that issue after file cleanup.

As far as the graphics, again that is not my focus. I spent at least 4 months of Chapter 1 development time experimenting with all sorts of graphic design software and settled on what is shown. My little Toshiba Satellite just can't handle graphic rendering very well.

Due to so much time spent on worrying about the graphics aspect I'm afraid the coding suffered greatly. Should anyone wish to take over the graphics and or sound editing, I'd be more than happy to let them.

I agree with you about the text and the author has given me full creative control so I'll be making changes to that as well.

Thanks for your comments which I taking under serious advisement.

Just a short update:

Instead of using over 200 lines of code and script, I opted for 5 lines of code and a png file which works perfectly. Doing it this way also allows me the freedom to add graphics should I desire to.

It is now in Beta test mode. Feel free to DM me Robitron #9682 If you would like to provide feedback. I have a little more coding to do if I can figure it out. I'd like to release it by Feb 15th as my target date.

UhOh! I uploaded chapter 2 to itch.io and am now involved with another project.

Sorry, I'll release it here as soon as I can.

We'll see where this goes.
Nice try! I think my first go at Renpy wouldn't be better.
Carry on and improve along the way.

Best of luck!
