VN - Ren'Py - Leaving DNA [Ep. 4.3a] [Impious Monk]

A dark gritty law & order story with personal intrigue mixed into it. The dev loves to leave things on a cliffhanger which I do not mind because I know what comes next will wrap it up nicely. If you like a good mystery story that is well written and produced then this is the game for you.

This is super easy to give 5 stars. I could tell it was going there right from the start. The writing is excellent, the storytelling too. The plot revolves around a very well done murder mystery. The girls are interesting, attractive, and have fully-fledged personalities. This isn’t a game about putting your dick in as many holes as possible as much as possible; it’s a well-written story in which the protagonist can get some action with hot women. If that might interest you, then play this game.
The plot is heavy, if the warning, or the fact that it’s about a murder mystery, didn’t alert you to that. It’s very well done and respectful and emotional and yes I cried a few times already.
It’s also remarkable that a protagonist so different from me – tall, handsome, athletic, hard-working, charming, and emotionally distant - can be so relatable, but I think that’s a reflection of how well done the writing is.
Downsides? There’s not a lot of sex yet, only 4 canonical scenes + two dreams, but it’s only the third episode. The scenes are good, although (as always) I wish they had more first person.
It deals with very heavy shit, so it’s not for everyone, but you’re warned about that in advance.
Highly recommend if you care about writing or plot or anything more than a horde of random people fucking.

Damn, this game is really good, the work and dedication of the creators is clear.

Writing is amazing compared to other games.

Models are also very good, some unique from the usual ones we see.

Characters are properly written. They are unique to one another, and there's not an overwhelming amount of them to bore you.

An easy 5*, can't wait for the next episode.

Episode 3 update. Leaving DNA.

It is the easiest thing in the world to give this Virtual Novel (VN) a 5 rating.

It should be considered the standard framework for VNs.

The writing is good. As good or better than most TV format daytime soap operas, dramas and comedies in the past 60 years.

As with many VNs you are given paths to follow involving different love interests (L.I.), but not so many as to be unmanageable over the long haul.

The characters have real depth to connect the story. As a viewer you can connect with them: what they are thinking; their motivation.

The story makes you feel the history and challenges of the main character. Their victories. Their failures.

There is no reason the author shouldn't be able to create many more stories after finishing Leaving DNA. They have mastered this art form.

Leaving DNA: fun, entertaining and highly recommended.

Damn, this game hits hard. When I choose what to play, I look for something that can evoke genuine emotions, compassion, sadness, joy, excitement, and this game has all of that.
Of course, we understand what kind of site this is and what kind of games are presented here. Sometimes you want to play something easy with sexy girls and lots of sex, but the games that are memorable are the games where you can believe in what is happening, where you feel like a part of what is on the screen, this game is just like that.
This visual novel has gorgeous renders, characters you get attached to, a protagonist you believe in and sympathize with, and perfectly chosen music. All of this combines to give you a game with some of the best written characters on this site, and an interesting story that you want to live with them to the end.

It hit me so hard when the protagonist finally met the special someone he thought he didn't have. That's the kind of emotion I'm talking about, and that's what makes this game one of the best on this site, for me at least.

Quite easily one of, if not the single most well written game on this site. Simple main characters that feel relatable, but that have a fantastic depth to them, moving dialogue that has led me to not skip a single line, and incredibly beautiful renders. While the development takes a while, it's completely justified due to the quality. If you want a game with a strong story and compelling themes, read this.

Impressively strong writing, definitely in a tier of its own within the adult VN genre. It isn't often I can say I don't skip dialogue for an adult game. The porn stuff is also quite good but it's the story and characterization that is the standout. The focus on only 4 LIs is also a strong point as they're all quite interesting.

Beautiful renders, dialog is very solid. within 30 seconds and seeing Jamie, I was in.


Only 2 minor critics: Non-English lines, it'd be cool to get a bracketed dub so I don't need to hit up google translate

This is currently the best of all the available games. I truly believe in its future and hope that it can continue to develop without hindrance. I will try to support it once I am able, as this is legitimately an unique piece of art.

It's pretty simple: If you want to play a very high quality AVN, that is sensibly, very well written, by adults to adults, you should play it.
Leaving DNA is just all around great, from the LI's to the graphics, story, everything is really fucking good.

Take the warning at the start seriously, as the game does tackle serious topics such as sexual assault and murder, but the author does a magnificent job in not letting these heavy topics bring the mood of the story down.
Everything is really well balanced and works really well, and if you like the first 20 minutes of play, you will enjoy the rest, given that Impious Monk seem to have a well thought and structured story already planned, and so far the consistency between chapters is very strong.

TLDR: Serious game, real fucking good. If you are looking for a good story with adult elements, you should play it.

Also, Jamie is an incredible LI, all around 10/10.

An amazing ADULT visual novel, handling ADULT topics in an ADULT manner. This is probably the best written AVN I've ever read. the graphics are great and I love the fact that each LI looks different with different facial and body type. For those who look look for a quick fap, look elsewhere but if you're interested in great and intriguing story with lovable but imperfect characters this is the AVN for you.

the renders are beautiful and different looking than the other similar types of game and i love me some mystery games so this is perfect. hoping for more frequent updates but i understand . keep up the good work and good luck with the project

Wow, realistic women faces? First two chapters of a slow burn with no sex dream? An MC who is an actual adult with a job who cares about something besides getting laid? What is happening?

Story is compelling, women are likeable (some even adorable) and the renders are good.

Look... if you're here for a quick nut, close the tab, this isn't the one But if you have played a few Ren'Py games and you're interested in something slightly different, check this out. Obviously the payoff will ultimately determine whether the time this game asks of you is worthwhile, but so far it is very promising.

I didn't think this game was worth the time I spent downloading it. I didn't like any of the character designs, thought the 3d cg was mostly so-so: odd lighting, odd proportions, just generally meh. I hated the story set-up and found it unbearably dull.

Its got a decent amount of polish, it's not a janky game or buggy or anything like that, and judging by the reviews here--it's liked by some. So if it seems interesting maybe worth a shot? But yeah, definitely not for me.

Nice models mostly. Comedy while a bit cringe had some good moments, especially our Armenian buddy. First time I had Armenians in a game, that's new.
Our Armenian ex-girlfriend sometimes looks weird, especially her face. She's not my type really. Jamie is my #1 interest but the Asian lawyer (Erin?) is a close #2 and I hope we'll get some real action outside of those dreams.
The story is spreading a bit too wide for me so something like a roadmap or a journal for the player would be nice to have.
Also I love the sad backstory of our MC. Those foster parents were a joke, clearly it was the woman who did not want the MC, not even looking into our eyes.

We finally have it! An AVN written by someone who understands empathy and how normal people having normal social interactions work!

What did it cost?

A conversation about arbitrary powerscaling in the MCU. BatChest!

Regardless, I never thought I'd be interested in another police procedural, but here we are. The little character vignettes, like with Aghavni in the car, are just great.

If you don't mind some cheese and the character models aren't too weirdly proportioned for you, it's fun and worth playing.

I saw that people were mentioning this game in a really positive light, so I decided to try it. I will admit to being a bit sceptical at first as we all have different expectations after all and tastes.

Having played through both episodes I can honestly say I am impressed.
The positives far outweigh any negatives.

First, let me just say thank you devs for writing an actual adult AVN with grown up characters, dialogue and plotline. I am so sick of all the teen/college games with horny moronic guys and their horse dicks. It gets real old, fast.

With this one we have an ever deepening crime story that has mature characters that are actually believable. The MC is actually a decent guy who has his demons and is slowly facing them. His childhood friend Jamie is totally smitten with him and she is so freaking cute!
Even the MC's ex is a nice and very believable character. It all just feels genuine and interesting.

The story is quite slow burn at first, but with characters you like, that's not a problem. It hooks you in and once the story opens up more., you find yourself wondering how deep the rabbit hole really goes.

The gfx are beautiful. They really are top quality renders. Characters look great and the women are not barbie type clones. They are pretty in their own way but not with over the top model looks. It's great seeing their personalities emerging for us to find out their real feelings for the MC.

I don't really have any negatives to mention apart from there is not really a lot of choices as yet. Much of it feels fairly linear and at first I started to wonder if I had picked a kinetic novel because it was a good while before any decision came up.

If you are looking for lewd stuff, then you will be disappointed as there is very little. If like me, you don't care about that stuff and love storytelling over shagging then it won't matter.

I find Jamie's legs look a bit weird...silly I know but she has really skinny and strange looking lower legs....like the proportion is off or something.
I kept looking at them and thinking "She looks weird!" haha. She has lovely features though.

Overall though this is a fantastic AVN to play if you like a gritty, crime type story with likeable characters and an MC with strong morals.

I can give this 5 stars with no hesitation. Totally worth a try.

So far Leaving DNA is truly excellent in every ways.
The story is interesting, the case investigation is done very well.

The characters are great and very well written, the MC is also very good and has his own issues instead of being "yet another thirsty creep" and the interactions between people and MC are actually believable.

It's a very slow burn, but the writing and the story progression really makes it interesting.
The text prompt (when you want to point something in some dialogue with your detective-ex or with a suspect) was a bit infuriating as the game does not recognize much words .

Hopefully Leaving DNA can keep up the interest it bring, 5 stars top AVN.
