So I had a thought yesterday. I've know about LoQO for years now but only got into the games late last year and even I am tired of the drip feeding of updates. This brings me to the thought I had. I was kinda shocked when I saw a fishing minigame as an update for an adult game. Then I remembered that when you start the game you have the option to go "stream friendly" removing all the stuff that people typically play this series for. Then it dawned on me. Gabe isn't making an adult game, she's making a (for most intents and purposes) indie game with adult themes. They may sound the same but they are different in the most important sense. As an aspiring dev myself, I can't really be mad at it. But I'd be lying if I said it's not irritating.

In some cases there might be a bit of a distinction, but I don't think Gabe is first and foremost creating an indie game. All the marketing has been "adult game", including the fact that it was initially funded by a campaign on a crowd-funding site explicitly for porn. The core gameplay is still just stock RPG Maker with some clumsily implemented mini-games written in the native Ruby scripting from the engine (or whatever this version used). Its biggest feature has always been a porn gallery with some complicated hoops to unlock it.

The stream-friendly option was a later addition that wasn't even present until 4-5 years into development. If memory serves, the first and/or second game had a stream-friendly option that was added because a couple of contributors wanted to play the game on Twitch without getting banned. I think it's to support relatively free advertising, not part of the vision. Although, it's difficult to imagine a few random streams generate much support.
