Two things that I find strange (in general, but mainly here in this forum) is:
- Why are most yuri games made with sprites from illusion games or 2D drawings? Why don't yuri developers use 3D models like Being a Dik or others?
- Why are most gay/yaoi games are furry? Guys don't like human dicks do they? Does it have to be a dog or a bear?

You can find a lot of 3D yuri games on OP main post.

However, my opinion about this is that Yuri games often involve a lot of romance, and romance focused games aren't really popular in the west compared to the east.

Which means that most of the developers are from the east and those doesn't really use Daz3D as much as western devs.

I don't know how far I am from reality, that's an interesting question.

For me, it's personal preference. Well-made Daz models look great. Badly made ones nosedive face-first into the uncanny valley and dig for days. And from the number of those I've seen, it's really easy to get wrong. Illusion girls don't have this problem.

I don't know if you're putting futa games on this account or something, but I really disagree with you with all due respect.
We are in a topic about yuri games and you can see that even the 3D ones in the first post, are either 3D from illusion games (Honey Select or Koikatsu) and games with 3D sprites like Being a Dik are more difficult to find (and even fewer are those that are similar in quality to a Being a Dik).

For every 1 3D yuri game there are 5 Illusion or 2D drawings games.

The issue, for me, is that if you look at yuri games threads they have a lot less discussion and comments. I imagine that means there are less supporters on patreon or something, which means less money for the game. I think it's worth enough for devs to invest in 3D models (and customizing them should pay off even less) if they can download a Honey Select here on the forum and use the photo mode to create an entire game.

Here comes what I said: games with DAZ (is that right? Are those 3D called DAZ?) are rare, the ones that have are kind of weird (there's no "Being a Dik" lesbian) and the staff, maybe because there's less patreons and resources, prefer to get the illusion sprites that are already ready!

I don't think handmade 2D art is cheaper than using Daz'like 3D, except if you're making it yourself (but the skill floor is high).

At no point did I mean to say that 2D art or illusion sprites are worse or better than 3D Daz, just saying how rare they are compared to other 2D art and illusion sprites.
As for being "cheap", in money, really labor (whether it's paid or you do it yourself) takes time, money and skill. Although these current """arts made by AI""" are becoming more accessible every day and, soon, they may reach erotic games too

I have actually just noticed that Shield High is missing from the abandoned section. Good luck actually getting it working though.

Huh, weird that it's missing as that is on the original list. It is actually possible to get it working, just need to download the older version of RAGS from...

oh.

OK, another hurdle. I had been planning on updating that topic (the game version listed there isn't the most recent anyway) but wanted to drop that with a walkthrough, so I guess sourcing an installer for the most recent 2.x RAGS release will be necessary too. I have 2.6.x installed but I think I got that off a shady site - seems OK so far but may be a risk for some. I also have an old installer for 2.5.2 which I saved from years ago which should work, but does have the same problem of provenance I guess.

Found it on Wayback Machine. Uploaded it to my for posterity. Worth adding it to the game thread of a dead game?

Might be worth adding as a post, just in case. I'm not planning on writing up an update anytime soon because I also wanted to address the new engine versions, and they are a mish-mash of working and not working content that needs so, so much more time to investigate than I can put towards them right now.

This.
Also, DAZ is a pain in the ass for devs with low-tier PCs like myself. Just loading up assets for conversion can make the program stutter, and renders of decent quality are entirely out of the question.

I strongly prefer the DAZ route, but the learning curve is steep and the hardware requirements are high. I've been making Erisa's Summer in DAZ for over 4 years at this point and I think I feel pretty good about where I'm at now, but it takes a lot of IRAY previewing on a $5000+ PC with a 3090 and a solid amount of rework to get things to where I'm happy... And I STILL want to re-make a lot of what I've already done (and in many cases with my earliest scenes, I have, over time).

A good number of the DAZ games in the list are old and not polished. Keep in mind the quality expectation has risen over time as well. There was a big leap from 3Delight to IRAY and hardware just wasn't ready for it right off the bat. Now that we're getting there, I think it's still just that there are far fewer lesbian protagonist games than there are straight protagonist games.

That's why I don't think money is the main reason why most yuri games are made using 2D hand-made art or illusion sprites, since 2D art is very costly.

To be fair I like Illusion and 2D Drawing more than 3D stuff.....3D stuff usually looks weird probably because I don't like Real Life Porn and just watch Hentai or read Doujin. Well I'm ok Honey Select stuff but other 3D stuff usually looks weird for me.
The real question would be why there aren't many Yuri game that have some gameplay and not just Visual Novel, Like sure some Visual Novel have some good story but I usually can just read Doujin if I want story. The only pros VN have is just Dev can easily make a lot of ending with it because how easy it is to set the Variable there compare to RPG Maker and all.

That's easy to answer. VNs/Kinetic novels don't require the dev to have any significant coding knowledge. The barrier to entry is extremely low thanks to Ren'Py. Creating actual gameplay is beyond the capabilities of most solo developers, and many who try to go in blind surrender after three releases tops. That goes for any genre, not just yuri.
And if you do know what you're doing and want your game to be relevant (and maybe even profitable), yuri is not the way to go. Let's just say that me offering the male protagonist option in my second game was not an "artistic choice" - the overwhelming majority of players pick it, and their support is what allows me to sink ungodly amounts of hours into game development instead of getting an actual job.

Ah yes the sad truth that Yuri game aren't profitable. Such a shame that I didn't have a Genie lamp to wish for everyone to be lesbian and create a chaotic world where birth rate decline to 0.

What I'd add to this is that making any sort of choice-based game increases the workload exponentially, and by extension, slows the release rate. For every choice you give the player, you have to code (and in some cases render) the alternative path that half of them won't even see. And don't get me started on my insane decision to allow the player to choose from 5 different underwear options that then all have to have renders!

Dreaming of the day yuri games will be popular enough, so we can start having our very own : "This yuri dev is milking their audience, what a scammer." threads. :ROFLMAO:

Sadly no yuri game is popular enough to take the crown.

On another note since I'm kinda bored. The Best Yuri Game i ever play is Rimworld 10/10 would make another Ara-Ara Slime Girl have segs with a Smol 3 Tailed Kurin(Fox Girl).

"At least she was a jelly."
-Probably the Kurin

One day we will get an extremely advance Rimworld Mod that allow Hybrid.....One day.
On Another note my Nearmare(Ara-Ara Succubus) have segs with her Psychopathic Nine Tailed Revia(Another Fox Girl) again. I don't wanna know who get snu-snu there.
