If I recall correctly, Pareidolia used to watch him from the corner of the room - and at some point it is said he also hid something in the corner of the room (but my memory fails me as to the specifics). Is Paradolia really just the deification of something Akira stared at while the abuse was happening to him?
However, I think it's unlikely that any god was created by humans after the last update. It seems like Selebus is going the japanese supernatural route of "gods are all around us". Narrator (Himawari?) says so herself. Humans created the gateways, and gods use them to come visit and sightsee basically. Rather than Akira creating Pareidolia (if your guess is correct), it is more likely that a god (Pareidolia) was drawn by Akira's plight (Pareidolia moved through a gate/slipped and found Akira), and then something happened that made him imprint on him.
Idk maybe the experiment's purpose is to somehow uncover/harness the power of the gods/other planes, and they're running this fictional city with people serving as beacons to attract supernatural entities. Every answer calls for more questions...
