There are a number of reasons I can't do that, but the biggest of which won't be fully apparent until the next update. Those scenes contain information vital to progression and giving players the means to skip them means essentially hard-locking them to certain parts of the game and forcing them to look things up to move forward. And while there are a number of players who already do things like that to avoid the "grind," this would be the first case where it would become literally mandatory for x percentage of the playerbase.

So tldr: I hear you and respect you but that's something I, unfortunately, can't do.
selebus just called the story and plot of his game a 'grind' I have been lied to and I was too stupid to realize I fell in love with just another cookie clicker game, woe is me

While true, there are some joking references to it. For example, during the Halloween event, there are multiple instances of a character about to mention their age, but then getting interrupted or distracted literally one word before saying the number. But I'm pretty sure they were talking more about the horror elements or something like the fact you nail a girl against a wall both literally and figurativly at one point.
I'm aware and I did address that, but the point was made about their, as of yet undefined, age. Since they did not say the number in the Halloween event, that can't be used as evidence.

Hence why I ended my comment with
"Another solution is to recommend that any player with this kind of issue does not play the game, but then we're talking drastic measures."
I figured it would come to that because of the importance of the events in question. It is unfortunate that things must be this way, but it must be done.

In a sense, that's kind of how the headpat system will be.
Now that is a grind I don't mind. Rin better prepare herself, the time of great patting is upon her.

I apologize for asking yet again but I've played the game for a few hours now and I must ask with the upmost seriousness what is this game?

Serious answer this time: It's a very well written denpa game. Most famous games in the same genre include Doki Doki Literature Club and Higurashi.
If you're not familiar with those, it's a dating sim visual novel that has something else happening beneath the surface and treats the characters as if they're real people by showing real consequences to the normal wish fulfillment present in most other dating sims/VNs.

It's a game that makes you appreciate the happy times by also showing you the sad ones.

I've been told that this game is supposed to show the characters as realistic with their own problems and such, which I understand completely. but what's with the weird smiley faces and glitchy stuff? also what is the text to speech thing?

Haven’t you ever played a religious satire slice of life black comedy psychological character drama horror porn game before? Come on man

That's the "something else happening beneath the surface" I mentioned. At this point, no one (aside from Selebus) knows what's really going on. Going by other games in the genre, it's gonna be some fucked up meta shit, but there's pretty much only mild speculation about what's really happening at this point since the game is still fairly early in development.

I'd write it
Lessons In Love Light Novel spinoff when?!

Huh, and I thought Higurashi was more of a standard horror game. Then again, when the characters in that snap, they do do it right then and there with little to no warning for anyone who doesn't already know. This is probably the best answer in the thread to this question.

Yes Indeed, maybe... wait could it have been no this entire time and we just didnt KNOW it
Maybe, but what if the answer is all of the above instead?

I've been told that this game is supposed to show the characters as realistic with their own problems and such, which I understand completely. but what's with the weird smiley faces and glitchy stuff? also what is the text to speech thing?
That is where the Denpa element comes in. It's all happy fun until shit hits the fan, as is the case in Higurashi now that I think about it. The 'glitchy stuff' and 'weird smiley faces,' anything happening in those scenes really, are part of the signature underlying Denpa plot that is occurring right under our noses. Selebus Since Higurashi was brought up, none of the girls are going to go full blown Shion or Rena on us...right?...right?!

Why am I seeing this as the literal translation of an Eroge/VN title?
Now I can't not see it.

Slight change to "I can't believe my little sister likes religious satire slice of life black comedy psychological character drama horror porn games!!" and you have a light novel title.

I'd read it.
Please, no, I can't take it, that's too funny. This is exactly something an LN author would use.

I'd write it
And I would read it just for the title alone, but I would already know the whole story by the time I got done with the front cover.

is that an offer or an attempt at humor?
Yes

I mean no disrespect, but maybe you could put a warning?

Like, just before the happy scene triggers, a warning would pop up that says: HAPPY SCENE INCOMING.

And then you click the next button and bam! Happy scene hits.

And of course, a toggle on/off feature so that players who don't want a warning (like me) can turn it off?
That doesn't solve the issue, those with a medical issue that could be affected by such an emotional jolt will still be affected, they just won't see the scene without warning. There is only one way to avoid the issue of people having negative effects caused by a combination of, for example, sleep paralysis and a vivid memory of the event that allows the affected person to relive it. That is for them to just not play. The 'happy' scenes are just too important to miss out on and they, in combination with the underlying issue with the affected players, are the cause of the overall issue.

And they should be called horror scenes, not happy scenes.

I’m not going to warn people when there is going to be horror in my horror game.

If you don’t like horror, don’t play a horror game.
