Honestly the latest update was one of the weaker ones. Not missing out on a whole lot IMO.
This VN has an... interesting fanbase. A decent chunk of them believe this is going to be one of mankind's all time greatest literary works and that pirating it is tantamount to stealing from Jesus Christ himself. Like idk, it's a decent game, and it's nice to see something that has regular updates. It's one of the few games on this site that I'm actually willing to pay for (though I might put that on hold since it's becoming apparent that it's going to take years before the plot really starts moving along). At the end of the day it has flaws, and ultimately it is a porn games with a large focus on fucking teenage cartoon girls.
It isn't just apparent, Selebus has outright stated it will take multiple years. This is going to be a VERY large, VERY long game in the end with A LOT of content. It already has a word count bigger than the bible. As for the 'tantamount to stealing from Jesus Christ' part, it technically is. Stealing is the same no matter who is being stolen from. However, I get what you were trying to convey. Also, this is more a game with porn than a porn game, the difference being a porn game focuses on the porn while this focuses on the story and the porn comes second, if not last, in priority.
The way I see it, is more like a fear some people have of the dev getting desanimated for some reason, and stopping giving his all on the development of the game. Saw it happening a few times already, with pretty cool ones sadly...
Because, when a developer sees that they are being priated from and the resulting monetary losses they take because of it, they begin to become less and less motivated. Then that snowballs into lesser quality, which causes some of the less patient players to rag on the developer, causing an even bigger drop in motivation AND quality. It starts a cycle that ultimately leads to game death in most cases. I have yet to see a single developer survive this cycle once it has begun.
Piracy is survivable up to a point, but once it gets so bad that this cycle begins, it's pretty much over. Selebus specifically does seem somewhat resistant to it, but even he has a point where it will begin with him as well. Even if it doesn't lead to game death in the sense he stops developing entirely, it could lead to game death in the sense that he stops developing it and then giving it out, instead keeping it for himself like I do. I say that because, ultimately, he's doing this because he wants to and is more likely to just start developing it for himself alone than he is to stop completely.
