I think this discussion is going somewhere it shouldn’t. I suggest stopping it here—I really don’t want F95 to close this thread.

Let me try to comment on everything that’s been said:

Yes, maybe we could be more active on the Patreon page, but considering our last post was less than 10 days ago, I wouldn’t call us absent. Still, we won’t post every single sneak peek or image—we think that could feel more like spam than actual news.

We’ve never made promises like "You’ll get the update in X month or on X date"—except for 21/06/25. That’s the only real promise we’ve made. We wanted to release an update three weeks after 0.1, but we clearly failed. It was a personal goal, not a promise. So please judge us on 21/06/25, and see if we deliver within those 20 days.

Also, we’re just two devs with real-life jobs, families, and responsibilities. This project is growing—and maybe someday it will support us enough to go full-time—but that’s just a future hope, not the current reality. We don’t have full days to work on this. We’re working our asses off to deliver as soon as possible, but we also want to release enough content to avoid insulting you with something like:
"Here, enjoy 5 minutes of content padded with an hour of grinding—there, now it’s 1 hour long."

The point of the “grinding” is not to waste your time, but to create effort-based decisions. You can clean and do what it takes to stay pure… but your own laziness will work against you. It’s easier to just let Kev cook for you and give him some advantage in return, than spend 15 seconds cooking on your own, right?
That’s the entire concept behind it.

This is what we can offer. If you’re okay with this kind of game and how we deliver content, we’d love for you to stick around. But if you’re looking for a big professional production with scheduled releases from day one, massive updates, and daily Patreon posts—this isn’t the game for you. We kindly suggest leaving the thread and enjoying something else, to avoid bad experiences here.

We hope the thread stays clean, and we’ll keep working hard on the next update.
Thanks for all the support—really, thank you!
I really don't understand both the hype and the hatred: the game had a very good start and seems made with passion but it's still a 0.1 and there is a long way to go. Regarding the hatred... We are enjoying this game for FREE, we can't really expect anything but HOPE that this project will be completed and that the quality will be up this first sample.
I just want to wish to Frisson Studios good luck and all the best

The hype is somewhat natural because there's an ocean of underwhelming and boring games released every year on this site, so people get very excited when something of real quality shows up, even if it's only a 0.1 release with limited content. But I agree that people should always temper their expectations.

The hatred from some I think is the flipside of that, where people maybe have been let down by many games they got hyped for in the past, so now they react way too much on the other extreme with suspicion for anything that other people are hyping.

The other aspect of why the hatred is I think actually an unfortunate consequence of access to communication with the dev. Maybe I'm wrong, but I seem to notice a trend on this site where if the game is by a Japanese dev who doesn't understand English, and often doesn't even know F95 exists, then the game thread here will mostly just be calm discussion of the game, and maybe some complaining and whining about how the next update is taking forever, but nothing too dramatic. If there's endless delays people will express their disappointment and maybe criticize the dev a bit as lazy or a crowdfunding milker, but they won't usually bother to go on angry tirades about it. But if the dev is a westerner, and especially if they post (or used to post) on this site, then I feel like that's when you get the highest levels of raging about delays and such. I suspect it's something to do with feeling like the dev might actually read your comment. The sort of angry person who is prone to raging at devs might not bother so much if they know they'd just be ranting into the void, but will feel encouraged to do so if they think the dev will see it.

Which is why I think it can be a mistake for devs to be too responsive to people throwing unwarranted criticism at them, but I also understand why a developer would feel they need or want to respond and clear the air as well.

Not to say that developers communicating here with fans is a bad thing, it's great for those of us who like the game, but I think an increase in vocal haters is an unfortunate side effect of being accessible and open to the playerbase.

This is the beginning of a masterpiece, please finish it. (y)
This is the thought we all have. Too often do devs take advantage of the good will granted from potential. I hope Frisson will not be another one of those Devs. Be patient, give things a few months and see if they follow through with a good 0.2 release. Just be wary not to get milked.

I will be supporting upon a promising follow up. Love the idea of this game but been scorned too many times to not be careful.

Agreed, I've been burned by early “potential” one too many times because after the initial updates, things always slow down, and complacency starts... That's when the amount of content takes a nosedive despite taking the same amount of time between the updates, while the dev is making serious money from Patreon or SS but doesn't want to deliver anything. There's no reason to doubt Frisson yet, but it's good to be wary. :WeSmart:

Fortunately, we don't have to wait that long. Version 0.2.0 arrives on 6/21... just 10 more days until we find out whether the added content is on par with 0.1.0 and figure out how much gameplay we can expect from new updates relative to the time it took for the new release, which is three months. :4Head:

Frisson_Studios I loved your game, I wish you success. I want to be your supporter but you are not on subscribestar :(
Create a subscribestar account and I will be your supporter, I will not be your supporter on censorious and prohibitive patreon :(
You have an account on subscribestar!

This account is not visible here or in the game? There are many people who do not like patreon, dude
You should give them sstar

Yea where is that posted? Discord, and not on the sub platform Patreon, or is it on Itch, again no release date aired? Are you gullible? You are. It kept getting put back on Discord, correct. There you are with release date, not on the sub platform. You said to be wary, but you just mouthed the biggest oxymoron. Somebody said something on Discord, join that club, you betcha, somebody said something on Discord.

They're wary on Patreon, perhaps? No reason not to update it with release dates, and market. I guess they should've Subscribestar.

It's a shame, considering the setting and story of this game would've been perfect for slightly riskier content that Patreon doesn't like, and they actively push the developers toward self-censorship. When the game blew up, the dev fully had the choice to prefer SubscribeStar as a primary platform... in fact, was created right alongside Patreon, but he deliberately left it out and pushed Patreon over SS, the latter almost an afterthought that no one even knows exists. It's almost like they want censorship and less freedom to work with and don't want anyone supporting them on SubscribeStar. It doesn't even have a logo inside the game, nor is it linked on the front page.

Even is a way better platform, as they have way fewer rules and restrictions. Either way, it's too late now; brace for the self-censorship galore and Patreon admins breathing down their neck forever.

Is that why they're more active on Discord? Or is it because they don't know what they're doing marketing? Or are they literally stringing people along?

In any case I'm wary on all of it. Let's flip the odds, they're possibly roped into a release, currently, providing some sort of speculation on it which after multiple times and excuses, now has to deliver. Otherwise whoosh, no numbers, dropping like flies and when the only advert is from a free platform, Discord, they think they're being more creative on without restrictions. On any simple odds I'd expect any further content to drag into even worse marketing.

Any argument for Patreon is it's more stable, it potentially has bigger numbers and a wider market. Easier to find devs and sign up. It literally sends alerts and offers away from the dev as marketing, sign up on offers. Here no not when it doesn't do nuffin like update its subs, but yea they're probably wary due to the content. So it's the Discord and the usual squeeze, guys buy these new renders, promise you a release date soon. Until it isn't hitting any margins, where nobody else cares about the content because the return business is more profitable. It sooner fizzles into the next current thing.

Wary and annoyed and don't really care.
