Hello people,
I've been playing for a couple of days now and just got into modding, or at least tried to.
I tried to use the big booba mod but I can't figure out how to get it to work.
I'm playing on 10.0.2 and tried to download the most recent version of the mod, it does show up in the mod section although it doesnt have the preview picture nor text. Elise cant help me either, I know its been asked a lot before since I just clicked through way too many pages but I'd really appreciate a pointer in the right direction :(

There is also a question of - is the Island worthy of being saved? How many decent people are there?

One of the kindest people to Lona is some random mercenary (Adam) who gives her a rifle, which she just stole a bunch for him, after he sees her being sad since he initially wanted to rip off her from promised quest reward.

After that there are only companions Cocona, Cecily and Grey rat. There is also that new quest giving mercenary leader near Sybaris who has good character and that merchant in Noer marketplace. Maybe you can argue about Big Mama after you gain Cocona.

Anyone else though? Citizens of Noer, Sybaris refugees and anything in-between. If you play the game and do quests / see how they treat Lona, others etc. There honestly is not much worth saving.
This is, of course, a logical, but not entirely correct judgment, all the listed positive characters (especially Sunny the Cocoon) always have this attitude towards refugees, I've personally seen this in my life, so you can understand people, they're probably not bad.

The theme of misery and suffering is systemic, and it is not for you and your Lona to change. The island cannot be saved. However, you can influence local tragedies, rescue a few people and, more importantly, save yourself. This is a personal story. Destination: protect your Lona. The game tells you directly to leave the island. When you do, you will have saved at least one life, Lona's, in a sea of suffering.
You are not the hero of the island. You are the hero of Lona. Go and try to protect her smile.
That's not what I got from it. Sure, on the surface it may seem that way but if you do the quest for Justice it's heavily implied that this is some sort of divine tabletop game gone awry. Fortune Teller is the goddess of the flesh beasts who somehow lost control of her brood, starving mermaid is the goddess of the fish people who are so dumb they call her a fake goddess and Justice is the lord of the undead. I don't think escaping the Island is the main goal, the story just isn't finished yet. I expect that for whatever reason Lona is meant to fix the different fuckups from both the Fortune Teller as well as the Mermaid.

All of this happened because the two goddesses thought Justice writes shit stories (which he does) so they decided to add some spice to it. Which went wrong, of course.

Bobo is a gentleman that respects Lona's boundaries.
Imagine getting Bobo off the island via the ship, paying 10 gold coins or more for a pig. They would still take the money and laugh at Lona. Then you take a step back and rethink your decision, a pig for 10 gold coins when people struggle for months to get a ticket onto the ship. Some sold themself and their relatives/family for much less. It's wack, but hey it's Bobo, I can make the decision for Lona and I think she would agree, Bobo > others companions because they all have their own scheme whileBobo is just chill, straight up deal or no deal.

Even if you take gods out of the equation, human nature remains the same.

Not to start a philosophy discussion in a forum about porn games but I don't think grim dark represents human nature at all. Sure, humans can be really fucked up but we also form close knit communities if shit hits the fan which is something this game completely ignores because then it wouldn't be grim dark anymore. It's very much style over substance which I'm totally okay with.

I'm sharing two mods I made.

The first is called Detailed Nose. I understand that Lona's minimalistic nose is a stylistic choice, but it's not a style I'm personally a big fan of. So I tried giving her a more realistic/detailed nose with actual nostrils etc, and I was pretty happy with the results. Anyway, I'm sharing it here in case anyone else likes it too.

It works with moot Lona, nose piercings, etc. And it uses her default color palette, so it'll work with any skin color. The difference is subtle in the smaller pose images (the ones that pop up on the right-hand side of the screen). You're only going to see a bigger difference in the CGs.

The second one is a really tiny mod that I personally use with Detailed Nose. It just makes Lona's freckles (which can be obtained via rebirth or cheats) much more subtle. They're really light now, and they only surround her nose area.

These screenshots show both mods being used together:

Detailed Nose and Subtle Freckles are both installed via the built-in mod loader. So put the folders in your ModScripts\_Mods folder and activate them in-game. I've also included a patch for Detailed Nose and WhiteCum below (I had to tweak some cum images to match her new nose shape). By default, Detailed Nose is packaged with default yellow cum files. The WhiteCum patch needs to be installed manually. The simplest way to handle things is to copy the new cum files from the patch into Detailed Nose's mod folder (overwriting the yellow cum files) and load it above WhiteCum.

Well, the more the merrier, you just joined the modder club. I personally wouldn't use it since it gives off quite a western feel to the artstyle but more options is always welcome.

Well, Close knit communities aka gatekeep, work well, but one single wrong element get inside and it all come tumbling down. Refer to human nature again. Solution is getting rid of all wrong elements whenever it presents itself

The game doesn't focus too much on it, but I wouldn't say it ignores them. The most blatant one is ofcourse the pighead sex cult (where we can see people are desperate for a community), but it's not like its absent everywhere else be it the towns where they torture the fishkind and orkind, the mercenary camp with the dog loving leader, or even the slaves who you can help escape during the Cecily's quest. It's not very present in the main city because the rot hasn't fully reached them and most are living in false sense of security, where they don't really feel the need to congregate too close, but if shit were to hit the fan they absolutely would be tight as thieves.

It's the medicine set that you can buy from Elise.

Human nature is a mix of competition and cooperation. Humans have lived through times that were arguably even worse than what Lona depicts. Like the entirety of the stone age or the black death. Now, I'm not saying LonaRPG's story has no value, in fact I quite enjoy it myself but it's mostly because it's over the top. 'What if 99% of people acted in the worst possible way at the worst possible time' is a fun story but I wouldn't call it a deep story, if that makes sense. Fictional nihilism and misanthropy can result in interesting stories but they usually lean too heavily into the darker aspects of the human psyche and want to stay there all the time which makes it quite absurdist for me. The quite inept and dumb gods playing a game and fucking it up for everyone fits that theme to a T, in my opinion.

I mean, look at the greenskins - they're pretty much a carbon copy of the Warhammer version if you substitute fighting with rape. Like their SFW counterparts they don't really care what their target is. They rape everything even other greenskins if that's what is available. Or the Saint who's just Solaire from Dark Souls doing the praise the sun gesture. Then again the dev might be clinically insane so it is anyone's guess what his intentions actually are.

I tried repeatedly, but I don't think I can bring myself to play this game any more. I like the game for its mechanics and unique art style, but this games world seems purposefully crafted to maximize misery. What is the point of interacting with a story where the only employed narrative transition is: "And then it got worse"? Do the players actions start having tangible consequences at some point? Played till after the border defense, but couldn't motivate myself to continue.
For me it's kind of an exaggerated parallel to real life. Lona at all points in the game can do anything she wants really. She doesn't need to be on a path to purity, she can deceive people and lie to people or ruin their life for her own gain (like Cecily questline). She just had bad luck being born into a fucked up world and now needs to navigate, but doing good things has virtually no effect on how people treat her because these people themselves can also do stuff however they want, they have no moral obligation to be good to lona even if she saves/helps them. In this sense I think it does a really good job at showing how dirty human nature is which is the exact reason I fell in love with the game.

Honestly one of the most compelling aspect of gameplay for me is how you can unwittingly die to rats within the first couple minutes of the game, but also have the hidden potential to kill some of the most powerful foes that regular folks would instantly die to (the video of a lv1 Lona killing The Beast comes to mind). The narrative is immediately set in which you play a fragile girl who has no choice but to beat the odds and survive where thousands of others did not and will not. The rat killing quest is the last easy quest she'll ever have. From here on out, every job she takes will be beyond her capabilities. If not for the ability to hire someone, which you'll need to spend some of your precious rat killing paycheck on, you wouldn't even be able to clear the cemetery outside a NG+. I watched this dirty little cockroach come back from being smushed repeatedly to something that could crush the boot trying to kill it.
