For the first hour or so you will struggle with every aspect of the game. Not only can you die in the tutorial in this, but you can die within the first minute of playing. You can reach a game-over scene before even leaving the tutorial with no way to escape. That right there is a good thing though. The game does not pull its punches at all. The game has sex in it, sure but I genuinely find that secondary to the actual gameplay itself. Honestly, it's not even second, its third. Even though the controls are frustrating at first, a rebind to them is easy and if you have a mouse with macros on it everything is easier. I rate the gameplay/combat a 7/10 the worldbuilding a 8/10 and the brutal, unforgiving game overs a 10/10.

The biggest takeaway I have with this game, with about 40 hours of playing it is this: This game is not for you if you like an easy win. The combat never is easy. Even doing a full mana weapon build with water mage, it never is easy. I had to turn the health up on every companion by about 100-200 just to actually survive early game because of the learning curve. The biggest thing you have to do early game is grind for the potions. Never leave without at least 7 of both. But this right here is why I love this game, the fact that combat gets easier, but is never easy. You are never out of danger, a single enemy can disarm you if you are not quick and its game over from there. The re-birth mechanic is great and makes it so that you can always replay the game if you made good progress and don't want to start over.

I thank the dev for working so hard on a game that there really is no comparison too.

A lot of people whinge about the difficulty but that's mostly a failure on their part. Everything to do with combat is explained in the tutorial dungeon.
Stamina management can be evil at times but again, PEBCAK.
Sometimes it can be frustrating, yes, I won't deny that.
This game has been described as VH meets Dark Souls, and like Dark Souls it requires patience and practise. Lots of both.

If you're up for a challenge that you'll have to stick with to progress, give it a try.

tried giving this another go and out of 500 + games that i have this one was by far the worst, the character can't even kill a rat and gets tired and falls asleep in the middle of a dangerous battle and the graphics are awful, it can't even get the resolution to 800x600, i don't recommend this game to anyone its getting way more credit than it deserves

    As of review: v0.5.8.2.10
Most people have described it as VH meets Dark Souls. Some have even gone out of their way and say that it is even harder than Dark Souls. I, on the other hand, would argue that it is neither as VH was actually fun to play whereas the difficulty is less due to the genius of the 'grim and gritty' world that the dev has conjured up and more because RPGMaker is terrible at implementing DS-esque combat mechanics and is buggy as heck.

What do I mean by all this? Why the 4 stars? As a game, it's really engaging. The worldbuilding just sucks you in and, depending on the person, makes you want to keep our totally-aged-21-and-above Lona hale and hearty because boy, is losing brutal in this game. To borrow a quote that succinctly captures the spirit of the game, it's a ryona game with sex in it as opposed to a sex game with ryona elements. They don't fuck around either as the game never shies away from showing bleeding from any orifice, piercings, how being enslaved is not fun.

It feels weird having to point that last one out due to the sheer amount of h-game content that makes being a sex slave to be a 'good' thing.

The story is...there, I guess. You play as Lona Falldin, and you just want to GTFO ASAP. But, in order to do so, you need cash. A lot of it. And you can't dally around too long since the price only goes up and the world becomes increasingly hostile. Or you could be a slave and ride for free. Oh, and there's cool haha meme companions like Goblin Slayer and fish people that chant 'So long, and thanks for all the fish.' I wish I could comment more on the plot but as of yet, the meat and potatoes is still in the town of Noer, your starter town. Also doesn't help that unless you get the fan translation patch, you can't even enjoy the later quests properly since they're in Western Taiwanese.

And yes, I am aware of the epic drama that went down here. Speaking of Taiwan and drama--and I do want to stress that this does not indicate nor point to any political leanings--I find it extremely jarring that the first thing you see is a screen forcing you to declare support for Taiwanese independence before playing the game. I don't necessarily mind if games have a political bend to it but there's a difference between going MGS or Project Aces and just straight up no-chill in-your-face agenda.

The sex scenes are not my cup of tea. I'll be upfront and say that if you're coming here expecting something to get you off, you'd be sorely disappointed unless you're into little girls getting horribly sexually abused. Even if you are, the scenes are repetitive and have little variety which stops me from calling it a good porn game. There's even an achievement lowkey mocking you for keeping your chastity which is personally an odd choice but okay then.

All in all, great game, not so great h-game. Now excuse me as I commit sins against the dev and the official translators by playing through this again with the fan translation patch and cheat mod because there is no way in hell am I dealing with info gaps and pregnancies so long that they might as well be real time.

This one has challenging game play that isnt repedative or boring with a somewhat interesting skilltree that can very your play style not to mention diferent weapons and equipment that also change things up a bit. Couple that with lewd status effects and hardcore scenes and you have yourself a bomb ass game.

    An unforgiving roguelike survival.

Each run is relatively the same, but events and encounters are not.

The game is not meant to be played casually unless you spec into some skillsets like Nympho. For example, all you really have to do is just fuck the everloving shit out of everything until you or your opponent runs out of stamina until they cum to death. This strategy doesnt work in some places

    but it's still an option.

The game is rightfully difficult, and for people who expect a lot of visual variety in H, are going to be disappointed. All scenes and positions are the same with the only few things differing are what is boning the main character and the descriptions. However for people who enjoy an H-game with a challenge, this is right for you. Casual players can mod up with cheats or whatever without really having to try to see all of the different scenes if that's all they're into.

I'm not sure how heavily the world changes over time as my runs aren't ridiculously long because of each version update that I decide to have a fresh start on.

Ultimately, I'm really into the fact that Lona isn't an overpowered hero who can just shrug off every hit into 1 dmg oblivion, as at even higher levels extreme mistakes are fatal no matter what gear you're using. The fact that you have to control two main health bars: HP and Stamina leaves you as the player to make decisions to either take fights or avoid them as a way of resource management because of Lona's vulnerabilities.

TL;DR: Difficult H-game, but rewarding gameplay with a small variety of H-scene positions.

Lona RPG... A game that is one of the best RPGM games I've ever played while still being in early development.

I love dark fantasy in general such as Berserk, Goblin Slayer, and quite a few novels and this one portrays that genre pretty.

tbh I've spent quite some time playing the game and exploring its world while never trying to finish it as I've been playing without a walkthrough but still every time I give it another go I find out more about the game.

The combat for me is pretty unique in this kind of game although really hard and punishing.

The art reminds me a lot of Kouta Hirano's works such as Hellsing and Drifters and also reminds me of Youjo Senki, all this while being its own style.

This is a game I wait eagerly for updates and one I'd buy as soon as it's complete.

This game has so much potential.
To me, the main storyline is a great implementation since it implements a mechanism in the game that compels the user to try to complete the main storyline before things get too bad.

If there were a wish list of content I would love to see in this game:
    - body transformations: breast growth, hip growth, bigger belly for multiple or large pregnancies
    - milking for money
    - sex for escape negotiations
    - besti content including chance for hybrid pregnancies
    - female NPC situations where they are affected by similar conditions to the PC (sex, prostitution, pregnancy, corruption, etc)

My hats off to the developer. What has been created thus far is a labor of love that is for sure.

After playing v0.5.4.4 for some hours i can say that the game surprised me in a positive way.

At first i thought the game looked kinda simple and having not much to do after some time, but i noticed how gigantic the game really is, there's plenty to do in the world map, achieviments to get, traits to obtain, many quest that you can do in different ways. You have a lot playroom until you get bored.

And not just that, but there's much room for improvent/expansion the game have.
It seems for me that we barely saw 10% of the game with how much things can added, modified, improved. More traits, more quests, more gameplay styles (like Lona going full criminal, becoming a necromancer, being able to control monsters etc), more maps, more named npcs with more interactions (even some kind of affinity system of how much a npc likes you, not implying romance here).

The h-scenes were not the most attractive part of the game for me, it was entertaining, but by far the most important part of the game. Could have more diversity, i felt that it was kinda samey.

I loved the artstyle. Very unique, never saw similar in other games. The grimdark setting improves the charm of the artstyle even more, it makes you really feel like you are inside Lona's dark universe.

Also, there's some good systems in play in this game. The wounds, the sickness, the stealth, the friendly-fire, the pregnancy, really good job here.
I especially loved the combat mechanics, it needs a good management of resources which makes the game challenging for new players and the different difficults create challenges for the veterans. I love a good challenge.

And there wasn't any violent bugs, game crashing bugs too. Incredible for a game this size. The minor bugs keep getting fixed every version. I noticed some inconsistences in dialogues here and there (mostly grammatic mistakes), but they don't get in the way of understanding what is being said.

Overall a great game with even greater potential, will wait for more! Eccma is doing an awesome job with this game.

    Has potential.

I downloaded the game for the same reason as basically everyone else here. But I ended up playing this like I would with any other non H-game: Trying to take care of my character the best I can. Partly because I feel bad when something happens to her.

The game is dark, even disturbing at times. Which is another reason why I don't play this as a H-game, but as a "normal" dark fantasy RPG.

The combat isn't really my favourite, mainly because of the stamina system. So I'm usually just stealthing around avoiding combat as much as possible or let other characters do the fighting.

My biggest gripe is when you boot-up the game you get this big banner saying that all character's are adults of at least 21 years old. But you (or rather Lona) is almost always referred to as "child" or "kid". And sometimes Lona even behaves a bit immature. I wouldn't say child, but not really like a "young adult" either. Especially considering her situation and experiences. Which can be translation errors, and easy fix/changeable.

I do like the fact that you can disable scat and watersport so I don't have to deal with that.

This game has my interest. And godspeed to the developer for their struggle against trolls and delivering a promising game.

I'm not a fan of most things about Lona, especially the tags and the engine (oh god the engine), but I've found myself actually interested in the game and the setting. It's a good 8/10 game with NSFW content of a varying quality, so it's worth checking out even if you're into more vanilla stuff.

Starting with gameplay, it feels fleshed out and I don't think I've ran into any bugs at all. There are some translations missing here and there, but they are tucked away and are for something minor, at least in the first city.
I was expecting to see drawn-out JRPG turn-based combats with crazy numbers and obscure stats. I was surprised to see straightforward real-time combat. It's not exactly fluid, but it works well and has some depth to it. I wish there was more equipment, but every piece of clothing is actually shown on Lona's portrait, so, obviously, it's going to take some time to add any new attire.

Speaking of art, the art style is really good. I'm actually looking forward to seeing every new portrait. It's Darkest Dungeon but anime, so it's pretty fresh looking. And having every character status actually show on Lona's portrait is nice and immersive. I guess the rule of "the more fucked up it is, the better it's drawn" works here.

But that's not to say this game doesn't have problems.

The real-time combat is nice, but it can get so chaotic I wish I could play it one step at a time. As expected, the combat is brutal, but it often feels like the game (or the engine) lacks smoothness that would make it more enjoyable.
The AI can be very frantic and rarely leaves you time to react, but the tools you have require some time to use even if you are somewhat used to them. Think of a Souls-like, but with tank controls. It's less about reaction and movement and more about positioning and spam. That combined with the stamina system can make you lose pretty regularly.

The other thing that bothers me is Lona herself. It's not that big of a deal overall, but she often behaves like a naive sidekick girl from a light fantasy Isekai. Her poses and lines don't match the setting at all. She doesn't come off as kind or hoping, she comes off as naive and oblivious because of exaggerated emotions. She's too cheery, too confused, too... everything. The intro directly tells us that she has nothing left, and this overacting doesn't come off as being broken. Especially since there are moments where she acts appropriately, so it feels like I'm watching her alter ego or true self finally coming out.
She's based on a trope, but this trope clashes with how Lona (or any person) would actually act in a setting like this. I hope that with time her character will be fleshed out to better fit the narrative.

It takes time for these problems to reaveal themselves, but the first and overall impressions from this game are positive for me. Lona is definitely worth checking out even at this stage of development.

Dark open world fantasy with a bunch of things to do. The art is also absolutely fantastic. The combat isn't all that great, but the variety of skills, weapons, and pre-combat tactics make up for it. Some things aren't really clear, like if it's possible to increase breast size or if there are more armors and weapons besides the ones found in the starting town (every town around it also has the same gear in shops).
Overall, it's actually legitimately fun. Once this is finished, it could be up there with MGQ in terms of how it's not just a fap and stop playing kind of h-game.

The only thing this game needs is more content. I find myself often forgetting about the sexual content by how immersing the whole thing is. Apart from this, regarding the systems of the game, I'd like to see more trait with their own effects in the future. If this also includes a bit of visual customization, that'd be great.

I was about to stop playing RPGM from bad/boring experiences from other games, then I found this. LonaRPG is different. Not the game that you just hunt all CG scenes and done with it. The numbers of mechanics show how much effort had been put into this game.

Came for the tags, stayed for the gameplay. IT feels like no RPGM I've ever played before. The world feels alive. I am not into any of these fetishs but the sheer horror of what awaits failure is just beyond anything else. Play it, I am sure it's ruined all other RPGM's for me. And I don't care, it's obviously an artists' labour of love.

...In some ways this game has better immersion than full on million dollar studio games.

This game is a kind of gem what you already see sparkling but you know it needs some more polish to be put into jewelry.

The art is certainly nice thought at many points its....im not sure how to say...awkward....strange?
For example the masturbation cgs dont look like as if shes masturbating but more like as if someone is giving her heavy stomach punches or many sex cgs get obstructed by the excessive fluids.

They still look good but could use some redrawing here and there and maybe better camera position?

The animations look good, the pixel sex is nice to see IF its not obstructed by other enemies/npcs.

Need to note that from what i seen soo far theres no gentle sex here, everybody jumps up on you with all their might to tear up your bumhole and such.

Combatwise this game is hard, not Dark Souls hard because that is a cakewalk compared to what can happen here to you. Step into the wrong place and enter an endless stunlock where your weapons are stolen (or dropped) and all you can do is watch an endless scene of rape and suffering till you either die or end up as a slave.

The equipment and RPG elements feel limited but im not sure if its because im still early on or because theres not much so disregard this point if im wrong.

Overall i suggest everybody who can stomach some blood, violence and rape to give this a go!

I really wanted to like this game, mostly because of the artstyle and protagonist and stealthy memes.

It seems like the dev was heavily inspired by Dark Souls series making game really grimdark, hard in the beginning (doesn't get much easier later on) and god-awful shitty and frustrating controls. I must admit that controls surpassed every frustration of the DS ones but that's because of RPGMaker engine, completely unusable for this type of games. On top of that is also clusterfuck of UI, icons that would make you think "what the fuck is this supposed to mean?", retarded UI.

It's not "DS level" of hard because you get fucked by some random textures, hit through walls and other one-hit bullshitery. It's hard because controls are broken. Enemies will step aside with blazing speed making you lose stamina. Once you're out of stamina it's game over - and make notice - if you don't go to menu to load instantly you will be forced to watch lengthy rape animations. LENGTHY. I assume I've watched fucking HOURS of those, and it's all WITH ctrl-skipping. About 10 images jumping all over the place with squishy sounds. It will be a chore. You make a mistake and you better reload fast. Game makes no effort to make it clear you fucked up without option to recover thereof assume that once you lost stamina during fight it's Game Over - you've been warned.

So it's bad game with bad design decisions in almost every aspect, I get it.
    So how is the ero-content?

Besides of unique artstyle - repetetive. Trying to be shocking and flashy yet boring. Same shit (sometimes literally) every other frame. And it jumps. Everything has to jump. I don't mind sound effects but holy shit, this is how toddler feels when you drop it down the stairs.
I don't mind guro scenes at all, but most of them aren't really erotic. And for some weird reason cum looks like a piss, it's really hard to get used to it.

    Final scores:
    As a game: 2/10
    As a h-game: 4/10

Spare yourself time of semi-translated buggy forever-beta mess of forcefully hacked RPGMaker cutscene locking bullshitery and watch game CGs instead. There is a pretty decent chance those won't be interesting to you anyway.

    thehotness

This is one of the best sex and action RPGs out there. Intricate mechanics, unforgiving and realistic gameplay, multiple ways to complete quests, permanent consequences to decisions, a lot of replayability. Very hardcore in the violence and non-consensual aspects, although scat and urination can be turned off, be prepared for uncomfortable and brutal scenes, but remember they were optional and punishment for being a bad player. If you play LonaRPG like a proper survival RPG and keep Lona safe, you can opt for there to be no sex at all in the game. But if you screw up, Lona will bear the brunt of your idiocy.

It's a good survival hardcore RPG game. the game might be a little bit complicated but
the guide from ZedTed on page 68 can helps a lot. It also features an interesting storyline. the NSFW element is likely just a part of the game not a main feature.
