So there's this mercenary
>Every time the area map is updated, -20 to Environmental Danger
How does this work? At first, I thought it meant the world map danger gauge, but that seems too good to be true. It says "the area map," so does that mean that when you load into another tile on the world map, you have fewer chances of encountering random enemies in this particular tile (or just encountering weaker enemies)?

So I figured some things out about the crafting system that seemed pretty obscure to me and I wasn't able to find the answers here when I was trying to learn about it so now that I know some things I'm gonna share them for anybody who doesn't already know:

The game says you can craft frag and shock bombs into timed variants by cooking them with "dirty" rags and it took me embarrassingly long to realize that meant the dirty clothes, but I also found out the civilian clothes and satchel also count. I don't think bombs are all that expensive to buy outright but if you want to invest time into crafting them instead, the crystal caverns are a decent place to farm saltpeter and phosphor (assuming you're not playing with fetishes on and cooking your excretions, because that makes saltpeter and phosphor too). The situation isn't like smoking meat or drying your veggies though, you need an equal amount of clothing to bombs. In my testing all the bombs I was trying to upgrade a tier were merged into one when I tried doing that.

This one took me the longest to figure out, but you can get 4x oil by cooking 2x meat stews and you can make molotovs with 6x oil. Honestly, it says it on the wiki but it's phrased as 2x File:Fat Meat.gif "Meat Fat" -> 4x Oil and I just assumed "Meat Fat" was some placeholder asset and the recipe wasn't working yet haha!

So yeah, if you already knew then this didn't help you, but info is not easy to find in 255 pages of this forum and the search function doesn't get specific enough to really ferret out information so I thought I'd put it out there as the latest post so people might see it.

I believe that environmental danger is specific to the tile you are on in the overworld, and I think it only applies to tiles without scripted events or settings. If you've ever tried entering a random tile and then "observing" and seen either "seems a little dangerous" or "should be safe," I believe those messages are in reference to the environmental danger.

Now what the area map is and under what conditions is it considered updated, I have no idea. I'm honestly kind of confused by that skill too. My current guess is that "updated" is a mistranslation of "generated," and the "area map" is the map generated whenever you enter a tile, so upon entering a random tile a -20 danger bonus is applied to the zone before you're spawned into it. I think it affects the hostile mob count, but I don't think that applies to notable locations. Dump a whole saltshaker on that because I'm not certain about any of it, but that's my best guess.

So you can cook already cooked foods? And you can also make molotovs out of meat? Very interesting. Hmmm, it seems it's possible to make molotovs out of human and monster flesh which isn't very useful otherwise. I have to try it.
Edit: I tried it and you can get a lot of oil from meat. Too bad my SUR is below 5, so I can't craft molotovs

That's my thought, too. Honestly, it's not very useful. I'd also like to know how to lower the world danger level without relying on random priest encounters

How am I supposed to rescue Cocona from the church basement if killing anyone there completely destroys my morality? Do I really have to jump through hoops and cheese it with non-lethal takedowns and try to stun everyone with a whip? Even if Cocona is the one doing the killing, my morality still drops down. Does my run with legal papers end here? Will I have to buy a fake ID after this quest?

Big Mama should already give you a free fake ID paper by the time she arrives at the monastery, so it's okay to go all out. Though you'd have to refarm morality in case it was originally above 50.

Thanks for the reply!
Yeah, she does that but only when you actually leave the church. I cheesed it with as few kills as possible, but my morality was still demolished. But you can discard the fake ID the second you get it with no penalties. I still have Lona's real ID, so it's all good

Yyyyyeah, I had way more than that. Not anymore. Welp, it's a small price to pay to save Cocona
