Of course it's a thing. It's no different than how it works in the northern hemisphere (aside from opposite cycles). Weather patterns will greatly vary depending on your latitude. If you're up nearer to the equator then, sure, it's hot and humid as fuck all year round up there, typically 30°C (86°F) even in the middle of winter. But that's no different to how it works on the other side of the imaginary line. It's just backwards, south gets colder instead of north getting colder.Autumn isn't really a thing in the South Hemisphere
