oni will be receiving plenty of tweaks to be more forgiving next update. her grab hitbox is actually very generous but i discovered some weird inconsistency during the last frames of the grab that's probably what was catching so many people. overall the game will be a lot more new player friendly

an easy mode (simple HP boost for now) will also be added for people who want to just see porn or have low patience since i'd like to make future content more challenging and lean into the demographic i want more

To everyone here, there's a really easy way to deal with the Oni that makes her significantly easier to fight. Dodging gets really dicey if you do it too often, especially if you start getting clammy and frustrated. But you can knock the Oni into an instant stun if you smack her right in the middle of her lunge with pretty much any normal weapon attack. The best ones for this if I remember correctly are the Mace (really tight hitbox and timing, but the amount of hits you can get in if you do it right make it worthwhile), the Spear (long range, so timing is much more lenient), and the Slime Sword (massive range but slow start-up so you're gonna have to anticipate rather than react, but the damage is well worth it).

Admittedly with the oni this might be a bit of a skill issue for me. I'm one of those people who prefer the difficulty balance of earlier Dark Souls to later Fromsoft games because I think the challenge got fucking absurd past a point.

I was able to beat her, but it involved me level grinding and then blitzing her because I couldn't figure the general timing of dodging her attacks. She's the only boss I had this issue with. Could just be a me thing, but hopefully the polish added to the fight makes her more enjoyable for everyone.

I would like to direct you to what I said earlier, as well as what Ding said. There's a bit of hitbox jank when it comes to dodging, so that's not entirely your fault, but you can knock the Oni out of the lunge entirely if you time it right.

nah it's not a skill issue, the fight was intended to teach players about exploiting counterattacks and a lot of people didn't pick up on it, and even if they did some were still frustrated they had to deal with the otherwise difficult fight until then. that on top of the hitbox being a little janky made it worse. that's on me as a designer since i should've kept something that important in a direct tutorial instead

the slime queen also has a knowledge check (reflecting projectiles) that can make her a lot easier but has the same issue.

Wait... you can reflect projectiles?
i usually just go in with genderbent use V as a burst of damage and then have 2-2 st agi and dodge and weave with sword and beat her like that...

...Now I need to go back in and figure out how to do that, I did not no that projectile reflection was a thing in this game until now.

Edit: I understand why the Slime Queen is the easiest boss to get to now. Because of the projectile reflection (which is just any of your attacks hitting hers), the Hadouken hard counters her. I never would have thought of that before now, and I see your point on the tutorial thing. While it's a neat little thing to find out, a mechanic like that feels like it should have been explained beforehand. I see what your original vison was though.

What I did was
1. Jump over her lunge (IMPORTANT: Drift in her direction so that you don’t land in melee range)
2. Using the Fist weapon, use your projectile
3. Repeat
IT WAS SUCH A LAME CHEESE :KEK:

also i think its very telling if a majority of us didn’t know about reflecting slime’s projectiles or attacking during oni’s lunge :0
when i tried fist’s projectile on slime’s projectile, it just disappeared and didn’t do anything :/

It doesn't increase the distance that a projectile flies, only reverses the rest of its flight path. That's why using a bunch of Hadoukens when she shoots works so well. With that said though, I do think the first part should be adjusted in order to make the Slime Queen's lesson feel a little less useless without extra trial and error. Instead of reversing the remaining flight path, it might be better to reset the projectile's initial momentum and lifespan when it's reflected.
