Love Inn, a 2.5D game inspired by the early to mid 2000s eroges.

- Setting -
You start working at a ryokan. The inn is a mess and barely makes any money. As you work, you'll improve the stats of the inn. You'll meet numerous guests. Some of them will permanently live in the inn, some will come to work, and others will arrive and become regular guests. You are free to advance through any character's story, or you can play all fo them in a single save file (I really dislike when I have to save/reload to chose another route).

Each character will be focused on a different kink, so if you hate NTR you don't have to continue that character's plot (I would implore you to give it a try though).

- Planned paths/kinks -
There will be exhibitionism, public sex, NTR (yes, ALL types of NTR), homosexual encounters (both female AND male), smell/armpit kink, water sports, voyeur/peeping, slave/puppy training, and most importantly, tender love making. I'll add more in the future when I read some nasty hentai or play some eroges.
It won't have futa, bestiality, or incest related to the protagonist (not hating on it, it just doesn't make feel butterflies like the other kinks, sorry friends)

- About -
I'm making this because I love eroges and manga hentai basically. Sometimes I'm busy, but I work on this almost every day, I really enjoy the process of game dev.
My main inspirations are old 3d eroges from Illusion like @Homemate, Sexy Beach 3, Artificial Girl 2... My fav 2d games: the Akabur games, NTRPG 1 and NTRPG 2, Harem Hotel, and some dating sims like NintendoDS Love Plus. Can't forget text-based games like Free Cities.

- Character blinking, expressions, moving heads -

This last two days I spent some more time adding details to the characters, to bring some life into them. Let me tell you, I did not expect /rotate only the head in the direction of the player/ to take me more than six hours, but such is life. I'm pretty happy with the result though, I'll tweak some things in the future, but for now I'm really glad I don't have any more rotating bones in my game.

The blinking and expressions required to split the character meshes into more parts, so I could move the UVs along the texture and not affect the main body.

I have a small script that activates an animation that moves the eye texture, and when the blink finishes, it picks a random number with the average human blinking speed and starts a timer with said random number. When the timer stops, a new blink starts. It's really cute to see the characters blinking, and it looks natural

For the mouth it's really similar, I just have another script that controls which expression should the character have at any given time, so it's really easy to change between them.

- Schedules, saving, more dialogue functions -

I'm implementing more things for the owner to do, so for each day she'll do some things around the bathhouse during daytime, and at night she'll mostly be taking a bath at the onsen. I'm implementing some actual, real dialogue, plus I implemented restrictions.
So everyday you can spend time with the characters, and with each character a different animation will play. This will advance time, improve their affection towards you and improve some of your stats. However, you can only do this once a day, as a flag will activate and won't restart until the next day.

So, once some target affection is reached (2 for the owner to have her first event), events will trigger. They will be mostly sex scenes, but you can expect some different things.
Also I implemented the saving and loading system, basic stuff, so I won't bore you with that. Right now you can only save at night when you go to sleep, kind of like writing a journal (a la Summertime Memories), but I'm open to changing in the future.

- Telephone -


There's also an old telephone at the entrance, where you'll be able to call your friend Saita, or different people that don't live in the bathhouse.
Saita is your best friend that you left in the city once you came to the bathhouse, so it's a good idea to keep in touch with him. Since you are in a far away town in the 90s, you won't have access to adult shops or the internet, so you'll have to contact him so he can buy and mail things to you. In the future he'll come visit


I wanna make a game that is entertaining, exciting, new. But it's not a porn video. There's great games that do that way better, I don't pretend to be one, this will be harem dating sim with lots of sex content.

I'm doing the second female right now, so you can expect some news about her soon. That's all!

Hello friends! I'm excited because I'm polishing all systems so it's feeling more and more like an actual game. Since I changed how I do events, now it's easier for me to do them, so I'm almost done with the first heart event for the owner. It won't be a lewd scene, but you'll receive a kiss (on the cheek). It's fun doing small animations for the events, it feels more lively. But I won't show them, since they have dialogue and it feels better if one day you want to play

- QUESTIONS -
There's gonna be special lewd scenes for events, but they won't be replayable. I also want to have some other lewd scenes that you can do whenever you want, as soon as you unlock them. The thing is:

1. I don't know if I should offer a menu with icons, and when you click one it goes for that scene, or just dialogue. The problem with dialogue, is that you would have to navigate through multiple options to select the one you want. I would like to have enough scenes, not just three or four.

2. Since my game is in 3D, should I give all animations to all characters? For example, you could select a specific missionary position for different characters, the animation is shared. Or should each character have fewer, unique animations? They won't be shared, so if you like one animation you won't be able to use it on other character. I like the idea of sharing animations, but it also comes off as kind of lazy, since you would see the same animations for different characters. Idk what to do.

3. Would anyone be interested in some play-test build in a couple of weeks? I'm reaching the point where I'm almost done setting the whole game up, everyday I'm doing less code, and more assets, animations and dialogue. I have a friend that is helping me looking for bugs, and I playtest a lot myself and fix every problem I see, but I would love to have some more eyes on it.
When I feel everything is smooth, I'm thinking about opening a Patreon, I'm guessing around December.

Some particles while in lewd scenes, I think they add quite a bit.

- Sex minigame -
These past days I was prototyping a sex minigame, but it is not fun, especially if you have to play everytime you want to watch some lewd action. A sex minigame also conflicts with event sex scenes, as you would need some attention from dialogue.

The minigame consisted of pressing an action key, so the protagonist would thrust into the girl, like in Sexy Beach 3. You could control the animation speed with your thrusting, so the idea was that your speed should match the "pleasure zone" of the girl. The girl could come before you, you could come before her, and, ideally, both of you at the same time.

The disadvantages (dividing all sex animations into three, no dialogue in-between, kind of a slog after you do dozens of times) outweighs the advantages, so I decided to scrap everything. Kind of sad about the wasted time, but I think it's for the best.

- About last post -
About last post, 1 and 2 questions: I'm doing the icon menu for sex positions, all the basic positions will be shared across characters, BUT some of them will be tied to the character, since I want characters to have their own kinks and them to feel unique.

I'm finally happy with this new character. She's in college in the athletic team, and she'll be working part-time in the bathhouse.
These days I was mostly doing 3D assets, now there's a changing room before the onsen (which also received much needed love with new assets). There's also a new laundry room. I'll try to think of creative ways of having sex in different rooms.

I'll keep adding textures/assets till the whole bathhouse looks nice and cozy. For now I feel like I have a good balance between doing assets/animations/story, so I'll keep doing that.

I'll start right now working on the full schedule for the new resident, Aya, with another batch of animations.

Terrible news. I wanted to try 1st person just to see how it would look, and I love it, so I'm not sure how to continue. Full 3rd person with static cameras, or 1st person with sex scenes and events being in 3rd person.

if you can move between rooms in 1st person, it is a good idea to make the player feel that he is there.
and in the events stay in 3rd person.
and in sex scenes also in 3rd person but if it is possible to add 1st person would also be good.

Thanks for the feedback, I agree with everything you said. I hadn't really thought about 1st person in sex scenes, but now I want to try just to see.


As a mini update, I didn't know about smooth shade in Blender. The left one has it activated, the right one was how it was before:

The nice thing is the poly count stays the same. I think it looks better with the shade smooth, it's how n64 games looked, and in sex scenes it looks better than all the blocky models. But I feel it looks a bit too smooth, so I'll add some highlights with textures in shoulders, elbows, knees, etc.

This is really cool!! I'm a bit of a "slut" for low poly games outside of the nsfw genre, so it's pretty cool to see one that is nsfw!

Hello there! Almost two weeks! So a couple of things happened. I had a bit of a rough patch with the game, since I felt directionless. I'm sure a lot of devs here can relate, but there's a point when making shit by yourself that you start to take interest in other projects, and lose interest in what you are currently doing.
But I know I'll regret it in a year if I don't continue with this. I'm leaving here my thoughts for posterity. Even if this gets dropped in the future and I look like a clown.

So after some restraining, I'm once again full in love with the project and enjoying every bit of it. I read a lot of hentai and played some Pokemon and now I feel refreshed. Aya (the girl below) now has proper textures for clothes and body, plus almost done with her schedule.

I started making and adding sounds for UI and it's really fun. Now the characters will go to an idle pose when you talk to them plus rotate to your character, and then return to their original rotation and animation, so that's cool, they feel waaaayyy more natural! I'll probably share a video next post.

I love every aspect of gamedev, and I like to take my time with it. I said in a previous post about starting a Patreon but there's almost nothing to do for now, just a couple of sex scenes and some dialogue. I'm enjoying more the process when I don't think about deadlines and just spend hours and hours on small details that probably no one will care about. But I'm happier that way and I feel I channel that to the game. This will get finished, but I'm not rushing any aspect of it.

There's a lot of nasty hentai plots I want to explore and I'm trying to build a good base for that. Take care, friends.

Hello wonderful people of F95! Just a small update so I can showcase the game actually running. After I spent some time working on the FPS camera, I missed the simplicity of the fixed camera angles, I really like the classic look.

Some info for those curious about gamedev:

When making a game, there's a lot of things I don't even think about until I playtest. In order for characters to rotate to your position, you need something some code to take the position of the character you are talking to and the position of the player, so you can calculate the angle needed to rotate. You also need another animation that starts, cause it would be weird for the character to keep working on something while talking to you. Then you lerp the rotation, so it's not instant, that would make it weird, too snappy.

After that, you finish the dialogue! BUT! The character stays there. So then you have to rotate the character to the original rotation and animation. So in the code where the dialogue starts, you need another variable to keep the data you want to bring back later.

I have to do something similar with the cameras, since I want to return to the camera that was looking at you before the dialogue. Isn't it fun? I mean that, I really like the puzzle aspect of making a game.

I promise you this game is still about sex!

Hello there! Feels so good to talk about something you are making.

So! Another character:

From left to right, Aya (in the athletic team in her college), Chiharu (college freshman), and Keiko (current owner of the bathhouse). I already have in mind the next character (a cute tanned woman), so that's good.


I'm adding more things as for UI. I watched a couple of very old japanese VNs and I like the simplicity of their UI, in contrast of the overly designed dialogue boxes of the late 90s. Now there's a small icon on the top right indicating time of day.

Some things that I don't have to make a video of since I gotta go: now some cameras move to watch the player. They also have some min and max angles so they don't go all the way, just to cover a bit more. I don't want to abuse it tho, to keep the magic pure.
Also now when you spend time with a character, there's a small text popup that fades away that shows just that, so there's a bit of feedback for the player.

Small steps over a long time. I made a github in november and so far I have made 73 contributions already! Also made a trello for bugs and to keep track of things I have to make for characters.
I'm also rethinking the story, so that it starts quicker and kinkier. Just thinking about the relationship of characters between each other helps so much.

So I started making models in Blender like a year ago. Here's how I'm making the models:

For the first character I did a sketch of how I wanted the character proportions to look. I want the characters to have personality and not be boring, so I exaggerate the proportions.
Then, over the sketch, I took a plane mesh and started modifying it until it matched the sketch. ( I can't remember why I made the mesh so small)
On number 3 you can see how it looked after I added depth to the plain mesh, so then it started to look like a proper 3D model. I used a lot the sculpting tab with the grab function in this step, the greatest exaggeration tool.

Then making the textures with its UV mapping nightmare, and then the rigging, assigning the polygons to the each bone.

After making the first model it is not as tedious since I use this one as a base for the other characters, while trying to make each one unique.

On the 31st I want to make an update just to recap the progress and objectives for next year. Thanks for the interest guys!

Christmas time is crazy, I had a couple of things I didn't expect these past weeks but I'm still working almost daily on this.

After a lot of doing and undoing the sex system, I'm settling (for now) on having different sex scenes depending on the current location of the character (determined by the schedule). So when a character is taking a bath, when you have enough affection you can start a sex event in that place. Some sex scenes will require progression so it's not stale. If something doesn't work, I'll change it as many times as it needs.

Here's a sex scene for now with Chiharu. Looks kind of stupid with the moving camera, but it's better than static since I haven't added dialogue to the scene yet. She's a first year student at uni, so some activities with her are helping her study. Shy personality, has a crush on you but will try to hide it:

Between animations and code, I'm adding textures and changing things here and there to the bathhouse. I'm working on showers on the changing room before the onsen, cause I really want to add some scenes there.
I'm also thinking of adding a small corridor to the left in the entrance, just to break a bit the symmetry of the building, and having there two bedrooms with mini outdoor onsens.

Objectives for next year:

Aside from improving what's done and adding content, I would like to release a demo not to far from now. A month ago I thought about releasing a demo this december, but as always with these things, I kept wanting to add more and better stuff.
The events I had I was not completely happy with, so I deleted those and began rethinking about having more exciting content. If I'm not good enough right now, I will be once I gain more experience, it's not a problem for me.

About monetization, I would love to put this on steam eventually, and it to cost about 13$. When? I don't know, once I feel it deserves it. But I'll work hard on this till I reach that goal.


Here's some old concept art. When I started to toy with the idea of an eroge, it was about a small coastal village, but then I decided to scope down the project. The village now appears as a painting at the entrance above reception.

So! Now there's rain in the game. But I like adding stupid details, so when it rains there's a teru teru bouzu on the outside of the residence. You might have seen those little white dolls that japanese people hang on the window when it rains, that are meant to bring good weather.
BUT, if you want to keep the rain for the next day, you should make the teru teru bouzu upside down. So that's what I did basically. If the doll is untouched, the next day there's a 75% chance of it being sunny, but if you alter it, the next day will have a 75% chance of rain.
In the future after everything is more fleshed out, I'll work on adding dates, so you don't stay always at the ryokan since it can be a bit claustrophobic. The idea is to hop on a bus that gets you to the location you want to go and spend the day (¿) there, obvious choices for places to go are kareoke, love hotels.. I'm trying not to scope too big so they won't be too big or have a big hub, just small scenes that change the dynamic a bit.

Also I'm thinking of adding a mountain scene that will replace the exercise stat. This is basically stolen from Summer Memories (excellent game), in that you have to spend time and it will make you tired, but everytime you "hike" the mountain you will advance a bit more. Eventually you get rewards (like sex scenes with hikers), and the last reward is a small shrine with a maiden in there, you can guess where this is going. It wouldn't feel right to have a japanese setting without a shrine maiden so that's my excuse to add that.

Also here's some NPC models without textures. If someones appreciates age gaps, you can look forward to the old man getting some.
