because you get the content streamed from a server afaik (i'm not that deep into all this so take it with a grain of salt) and that really rubs ppl the wrong way because pirate site etc.

I think the bigger issue with regards to streaming stuff to people's computers is that it usually requires bypassing antiviral software in order to work. Still, devs choice, peeps don't have to play the game...

Still, as much as I'm kind of indifferent to the dev's primary game, gotta love the games that parody streaming sites. Do more of those!

The thing is flamie (and his/her crew?) really pissed off a lot of people on f95 with their main game LiiT because it is pretty much impossible to pirate because you get the content streamed from a server afaik (i'm not that deep into all this so take it with a grain of salt) and that really rubs ppl the wrong way because pirate site etc.

Now what this does is shown in the ratings for both games because if we just talk about game quality these games are very far up there, especially in the art department but most people on f95 (who would have guessed) don't want to pay and that is enough for them to "boo" the game/dev with bad reviews.

Personally, I understand both sides to some degree, but I don't involve myself in those "fights" because I really don't care enough anyway.

Well, it wasn't content being behind a paywall that pissed people off so much, so much as basic game features like the ability to save the game being behind one. Because at one point you could not save in the main game unless you gave them money. Some people bitch about the content still, but a lot of them are still pissed about that, even though as far as I know it hasn't been a thing in quite some time (*edit it kinda is still a thing as you're limited to one save slot in a branching story, which is definitely still kind of shitty, but not no restroom at all shitty. They at least have a designated pissing closet, there's just the one and it doesn't have any plumbing, you've just got to go on the floor), they're just carrying on the animosity from the original shitty behavior. Making a game that takes a dozen hours to play and asking for money to save is pretty shitty. It's like not having restrooms in a public park. People could just not play the game, sure. People could just not go to parks. But if you do shit like that, expect people to start pissing everywhere. Even after you add the restrooms, if you happen to have ever taken the stance of, "If you don't like my park and don't want to give me $20 for basic features, you can go fuck yourself", people are probably gonna keep pissing everywhere out of spite. "Give me $20 to ride the cooler slide", maybe a little excessive but understandable, people are always gonna get pissed at "$20 to piss" though.
