Hope your employer doesn't think the same way about payment for your labor. patreon content allows for authors to continue their work. I know you did not asked for morals, but asking that question in an official thread is a bit disrespectful

So I haven't played this game for about 2 years I think, now I've skimmed through the last 2 pages of comments and it sounds like you can't really play this without being a Patreon?

He kinda does not do that as the unlocked stuff is old things and the meaty stuff is usually behind hard paywalls. Like for Gallery Unlock you need to put up with 15$ monthly. Coming from a Dota 2 fan, we usually do put up with money on the battle pass, like myself I have put in 1000$ in battle pass alone and I still consider this 15$ monthly too much. So even with unlock popping up his patreon income does not go down, if it does its probably because the person cannot shell out that much money and stops the patreon. There is no true crack for his work that he needs to worry about so these gallery unlock don't even need to be patched out.

Nothing says morals like a developer that abandons their ventures to come out with a new rehashed version, and the new rehashed version launches with things like 'save' being locked behind a patreon wall.
Patreon content allows most developers to milk their audience dry while updates are few and far between, leading up to a usually abandoned product.And it's infinitely worse than just buying an early access title, because patreon turns it into games as a service with very little updates.
4 chapters in over 3 years, making nearly 10k canadian a month, and you're looking to players of a porn game using stolen characters for morals.

The only thing they pay for is the domain name which doesn't even cost a lost since it's a .me.
As for the website there are numerous free decent hosts such as github pages, Oracle (if you want a free VM) and more. Hosting is really not the issue here, just the dev being greedy. Watch it be Bone Tales v2

Agreed. But what makes it even worse is that the dev did not create original characters for the story. He's milking money out of a project that parodies existing characters.
