Welp, picked this up when I heard that the SNS stuff got translated and decided to give it a spin and... uh... Let's just say that I'm disappointed.
However, before I get into that, huge thanks to Thant San for the fix that they posted. While the game was running decently even without it, the way it ran afterwards was a lot better. Hell, I wonder if it's worth trying this with other MV games to see if it improves overall performance... but that's something to mess around with in my own time.
Now, about this game and why I ultimately ended up disappointed in it.
First of all, this is one of those cliche NTR games where an unreasonably over-sized debt pops up that needs to be paid. It's specifically in the "boyfriend got the debt and the girl decides to help out" category. From the start, there's not much to expect from the story. You've seen one of these, you've seen them all to an extent. It' all simple. McCuck-kun got the debt for being a dumbass who doesn't read the fine print and then he and Luna get shuffled off to some remote island to hunt monsters for money.
About the only divergence from the usual cliches is that the debt collector and their company doesn't try to lewd Luna or saddle her with lewd jobs. Instead, they run into 4 guys on the island that get the hots for her and don't particularly care about the fact that she has a boyfriend. They're the usual cliches too with nothing to make them stand out. The Pervy Midget, the Fuck-boy Gyaru-oh, The Fat Ugly Bastard and the Dark Skined Super Muscled Foreigner. Nothing particularly special here.
As the two meet these dubious examples of masculinity, they also try to find a place to stay and discover that the main Inn on the island is a tad expensive (6000 Gold a night for the two of them) and that the only other Inn in the Slums only has a single massive room with bed-rolls and they're rightfully concerned that Luna might get raped in her sleep or something if they stay there.
Sounds like it's all set-up to have some nice pressure to get you to make tough choices in terms of whether Luna gets corrupted/raped/whatever, right?
Haha.
No.
Can't have that fam.
This is where the game starts going wrong.
First, the two of them find this conveniently abandoned hideout that they an live in together like a couple.
Second, there's no interest or time limit to pay the debt or any kind of pressure at all so you can take your time to do whatever, regardless of whether it's for narrative reasons or gameplay reasons.
Third, the four wonder-guys don't actually DO anything unless you go to them with Luna to make a 2-man party with them and explore the dungeon.
Fourth, you're not given ANY incentive to do this aside from the fact that this is an H-game and you're obviously here to see lewds.
For that 4th point, I messed around with the guys a bit, and the main draw is that they're higher level than McCuck-kun, but, they don't have better equipment by default, and their skills aren't necessarily superior by default either, and you have to level up Luna ANYway... On top of everything, it's trivially easy to scrounge up enough money to get the best weapons for Luna and McCuck-kun, which makes the first few floors super easy ANYway, so it's not like the game pressures you all that much in terms of needing better fire-power to push forward. McCuck-kun also has solid skills and stats anyway that work well with Luna, and the gameplay isn't that complex either.
Worse, the bosses are a joke, in the sense that you don't need to beat them in one go. You can visit a boss, hit them as much as you can, escape with no penalty, go recover, then come back to the boss and keep wailing on it. Repeat until it dies. There's even rest-spots in the tower, so it's not like you need to leave the place... and time doesn't pass while in the tower in any way, which makes the whole time system a joke too.
You can, with some patience, first grind your way to get the best gear, which won't take long. Then go in the tower with Luna and McCuck-kun and beat the whole thing in a single in-game day without spending a single consumable, and that'll take care of more than half of the debt all on its own. Not that it matters because there's no interest system or anything to force you into making an effort of any kind. I beat the final boss with Luna at lvl 36 and McCuck-kun at about the same (or was it 37? I'm too lazy to check) and it was more tedious than anything else, even though the game makes it sound like you should be level 50+ or something to beat that boss, which is really not the case. I only needed like 1 break (because I fucked up and caused Luna to die) and 3-4 potions to beat it.
As if all that isn't enough... even IF you take the chuckle-fucks in your party and go grind with them and Luna... nothing happens unless you intentionally trigger their clearly marked events. And a bunch of them also come with "Do you want to let this guy rape Luna? Y/N" messages too to give you even more room.
Wtf?!
The NTR isn't so much avoidable in this game as you have to seriously go out of your way to make it happen.
It's not like while playing with just Luna or McCuck-kun the other does anything, no, it's a mechanic that exists just to enable certain scenes and whatnot, and to let you wander alone with Luna so you can throw her into being raped. At least, if say, while Luna was in the party with one of the fuck-boys, McCuck-kun also earned some kind of passive income, then you'd have a legitimate gameplay reason to bother separating them... but you don't.
You have nothing except. "This is a NTR game, so just go get those scenes buckoo!" That's it.
I dunno about other people, but if I just wanted to have the smut essentially separate from any kind of gameplay or narrative logic, I'd just find some CG sets out there or something.
It's games like this one that reaffirm my thoughts about Nebel being the best NTR game (that's a game and not just a VN or whatnot) that I've ever played. Because this game is a joke. It's a bigger joke than the Acerola NTR games, at least those ones throw in a reason for the girl to slut-around and don't try to pretend to be anything else except scene collectors.
So yeeeah. Majorly disappointed in this game. It has some hot scenes and whatnot, but the way you go about getting them is just utterly lame for a NTR game... and I'd have said the same if the BF didn't exist and it was a corruption game instead... But then at least you'd have an actual excuse to party up with the fuck-boys aside from "just because lol, don't mind McCuck-kun who just ceases to exist while you're out hunting monsters with those guys~".
Oh well, at least the scenes were hot. That's something at least. Could've been way worse.
