No, it is not a sequel. It is a spin-off (although a very high-quality one, I recommend it).
In China, pornography production is prohibited, all the developers were jailed. One of them, who lived abroad, had some of the source code and he seemed to want to make a 16+ sequel, but that's old news.

Like any game, it can be hacked with ArtMoney, but to be honest I don’t see any point in this, because, as I wrote above, it is played as a visual novel, without providing any challenge.
Could you please share a link to pavilion of desire in eng? I tried following the steps using BepInEx but still shows in chinese

Yes, the spin-off was released before the main game ended. In China, pornography production is banned, and all the developers (except one, who lived abroad) were jailed, and their equipment was confiscated.

It was a long time ago, and I haven't saved the game. Try reipatcher. There are instructions in the thread I posted earlier; it should work. And tell me what the specific error is. Does Alt+0 bring up the translator menu?
Don't know the reason but I downloaded the game from other source, it says Build 11069048, which I think is the same as ver 1.01, tried again with Reipatcher and worked! thanks for the help!
