It's not Ren'py, but incompetence of Devs that can't implement a proper saving structure nor a proper gallery.
The dev of Lust Odyssey is one of the biggest offender.

Shelter's Dev's doing great for their Ren'py game, with Amazing saving / rewinding system and a great gallery.
Coming Up On Top, nothing spectacular, but both saving and gallery are doing their jobs right. This Should be game standard.
Lustful Desires, kinda having the same Saving problem as Lust Odyssey, But it has a Decent gallery.
Also, most Japanese games will have "Replay function" in their gallery.

So, it's really just this Dev's incompetence. And we should hold them accountable for better games.
It's definitely not too much to ask for, especially for a game that makes loads of money monthly.

Oh so you're doing the sub path, that I can't help you because I play as a dom. The dom branch is the only path of the quest which is completed so far.

Haven't played since some early 30s version and thinking of picking this back up. Has there been any new Garth content, or is he still stuck on that asteroid away from all the action?

Tho I'm glad he's trying to refine his game-play aspects. And this update is much less reek of Money hungry stink, So I guess it's a good thing?
