I want to be clear I'm not a fanboy defending Narram. I do think his art is serviceable, but it's definitely weird in plenty of places. I just think calling Hyao cheap for going with him over ZoroJ (if that's even accurate) is over the top and people are tearing into this like it's supposed to be an immaculate work of art. I just excuse a lot of the weird stuff because:

Reminder that this project is a gay furry game on the internet that you can play for free. You get updates 1 month later than people who pay a single dollar do, except that most of the people here are getting the latest version for free as well, so literally no waiting. For that kind of ridiculously low price (or outright free), I just think some of the people here are extremely entitled, and no one is forcing you to play the game. If you want to see anything change, talk to Hyao, Narram, or do anything besides bitching on an unrelated website (not saying you, Nackedsnake, are doing that, this is just a blanket statement to the people in here since yesterday's update), because anything said here will accomplish nothing.

I do agree we shouldn't beating / flaming Hyao or Narram in anyway. We (at least me) hv no idea what they are going thru, and if it's about money, developing good games cost a lot of money, besides it's quite difficult.

Everything is in agreement.
I did invest in their Discord to discover that no one was discussing problems in their games or development, but only nonsensical topics and sharing their private fuckup lives in the Patreon-only room, which didn't change anything or make it better, which is why I stopped supporting and playing this game after... after as you can see.
Unfortunately, there is still no game that is good enough to replace this game, which used to be the best but is now fucked up.

I guess another way for it to change is for people who are investing find out how terrible these drawings are and start canceling their subscriptions.

Not being a downer but I for one like good and decent art, but this game is like a sinking ship and it's filling fast.

Hopefully something happens and things change, or I might end up finding something else to fund and let someone else pick up on this one

Narram isn't ZoroJ he need's to stop trying to be ZoroJ that color pallet is hideous and the body buffness needs to be toned down a tad otherwise the character design is fine imo.

I mean, I'm half-and-half on it. People who play for free are definitely right to criticize, but just saying "NARRAM SUCKS, HYAO'S A CHEAPSKATE, GIVE US ZOROJ BACK!" is just pure entitlement and nothing more. Honestly even if you pay a buck a month, it's still pretty entitled. There's a way to add constructive criticism without being a jackass, and a lot of people in here would rather just bitch on an unrelated site instead of trying to get something they clearly care about to some extent, fixed.

Yeah I have no idea what happened there. My best guess is that Hyao definitely wants an artist to draw ferals (since there's a handful of them) and ZoroJ refuses to do ferals (Werewolves were probably the furthest he'd go, especially considering Alpha WW and the other two WWs who I'm not gonna say cuz spoilers and I'm too lazy to figure out how the spoiler button works, were kinda feral-ish). Whether he's gone for good or not, Narram is the artist now and people need to understand that. Send critique (CONSTRUCTIVELY!) if you want to see change.

Oh no yeah that's one point of criticism I 100% agree with. Rather than continue to add new places, finish what you have started. So much in the Mulberry cave was WIP for so long and it made no sense. We now have the Brothel in Northcrest with one scene (that I'm not even a fan of) and nothing else. The new Island Inn has one intro scene and nothing else and will likely go awhile without any addition. If it's because he needs to introduce some new character for that, maybe hold off on that content entirely before showing the character.

I can't really comment because I'm not too picky in that regard (considering it's still better than like 95% of other gams I play that either have bad/no art, or just steals art without asking), plus I don't care too much about the art. Hell I'm fine playing Flexible Survival and just doing my business with the text. That said, I still think sending constructive feedback would be the best approach as it's good feedback to send. Narram clearly isn't a bad artist, there's just inconsistencies. Remember: many people being an asshole to Narram (or Hyao) would only result in either being blocked or shutting them down so much that they just want to stop doing the project.

I'm actually in the discord, though I mostly lurk or hang out in their "other NSFW games" channel to get more games to play. I haven't seen much critique, if any, but I'm also not really searching for it. It's entirely possible people haven't given fair critique (and knowing the internet, I'd be willing to bet the majority of people who give "criticism" are the ones similar to in here who are just bitching and saying Hyao is cheap and Narram sucks compared to ZoroJ, and of course no one is going to listen to that. No one wants to give an asshole the time of day). I don't know and I'm not claiming to know, all I'm saying is you'll never know if you don't try or at least see if anyone else has tried.

Unfortunately, there is still no game that is good enough to replace this game, which used to be the best but is now fucked up.

• I'd say Tavern of Spear if it wasn't so slow, imbalanced, and didn't have the murder porn.
• Lust Odyssey is a bit newer but up and coming if you enjoy space/sci-fi/alien stuff (also has humans and anthro races).
• Flexible Survival is fucking massive, but it does have non-males as well if you're okay with that. Also more text-based as many characters don't have art still.
  • If you're bi or just okay with females existing, the Fenoxo games are always a go-to.
• Lilith's Throne, for how much garbage I give it and the shitty dev, the skeleton and systems of the game is really good (performance is not however). Also mostly text-based, but I keep finding myself returning to it for some reason. Doesn't really have content per say though.
• Small on Top is good if you're into that and like being on top, also if you can handle the extreme campiness.

Hopefully you find something in there.

I"m not sure "speaking with your wallet" works, as I don't think Hyao is running it as a business / his major income?
Even if it is, we all know there're many patreons don't care where they throw their money at, otherwise "Blackgate case" won't exist. Also doesn't feel like the devs are looking for "constructive criticise".

Kinda sad to see it sinks tho, especially when looking around, there's actually not a single similar game hit the finish line , and LD doesn't looks like one either.

The game similar to LD I can think of is actually very few (also to ppadjake if you hvn't checked out already)

• Incubus Realms, but this one is also in Limbo
• Lust Odyssey, but the art department is quite lacking, and it's too early who know what'll happen down the road
• Dawn of Corruption, but the kinks are a bit too niche (TF, Macro, Goo, Corruption, etc)
• There're a few others, but either too new, or already dead
• I believe there are more Japanese ones, as they have a much longer history for making (Non-VN) gay games, like from dev "UNDERGROUND CAMPAIGN" or "Moritake".
  • but I don't speak Japanese, don't know where to look, and this site doesn't host non-English games.

The story is definitely pretty basic, but that kinda comes with the territory of blank slate protagonists. Tavern of Spear/Echo/Adastra/S.H.E.L.T.E.R. have pretty great plots because they wrote it with a specific identity for the protagonist.

But now that I think about it, doesn't LD have sort of a plotline about you (the herbalist) trying to find his master? I haven't started a new game in so long. I was expecting to on update 0.40 but saves could continue so I didn't bother.

• Its Sandbox variety is not even close to FS / TiTs / Hornstown

I don't know about Hornstown, but LD certainly has a bigger sandbox compared to newer games like ToS and OIHS. The problem is that the sandbox just keeps getting bigger, but is still shallow as fuck. When ToS introduces a new area, it fucking introduces a new area. The areas are well built into the lore and as slow as it is progressing, its definitely more worthwhile when you go exploring the new dungeon compared to whenever LD releases a same-skinned area with recolored enemies.

• Its game mechanics / grinds are on the "annoying" side

I've always resorted to cheating my stats since 0.11 or so.

For me, that's not so bad. I do wish that some kinks are made more apparent before you proceed. Its pretty obvious when its watersports and stuff, but the brothel can be a little too unclear that you are about to go do some weird shit. Granted, its guest writer content, but now that I think about it that kinda adds proof that there's no quality control with content. That's kinda bad.

There's a lot of issues really because LD had the potential to be a really big game and the bigger its getting is probably just making Hyao worry even more. Let's all try to remember that gender and sexuality were all options in the beginning, and the game has shifted to 99% gay bottom content. At this point, why do we even have dom/sub scales? Even when playing as a sub, beating enemies would only allow me to only top certain enemies. No power bottoming at all. I get that its sometimes optional to top your enemy but still.

The alchemy portion of the game, one of the more inventive systems introduced in the start, is probably one of the worst now considering how you can have so many ingredients. One of the main reasons I use the debug in the preference menu is because of this. It'd be easier to just craft the goddamn thing rather than insert individual ingredient because there's too many. I wish we had a more intuitive crafting system like something in Mana Khemia, I guess.

The thing is. I mostly play this type of game because I want to see eye candy and some romantic and lewd scenes for the first reason, a plot for the second, and gameplay for the third. So, mostly I care what I see first, I do like this character? if I like it, what about the story?
I really love Kol in Human Cargo, even if I'm not playing anything just clicking for some choice and only reading that makes me enjoy the game just because of Kol's appearance and his character, That's all!
I like Bara over the other genres, but because I can't understand Japanese, so I have to look for a Bara character among the Furry games, but it's fine if the Furry sprite sparkles me as many characters in LD do. It's often difficult to determine what I'm searching for, but I know I'm looking for someone of my type since I'm interested in him in the game. That's why it's really hard to tell.

Like everyone said Narram's character is ugly, and I agree. So I have no reason to play the update because there's nothing to see, and I've seen what everyone is saying about the guest writer and how horrible it is. And hopefully, they'll keep writing the major path one day.
Oh, I do love Extracurricular activities too.

Okay first off, I don't recognize some games from the ones I've tried, so thank you for a few more recommendations I need to check out As for your actual points, yeah, I don't disagree and I can see how LD has degraded in quality, but I'm still supporting it nonetheless. I also do want to go through each point rq:

• Writing: Yeah, and it also doesn't help I feel like Hyao may be ESL? That's at least the impression I got from day 1 based on how some things are written.
  Story: Agreed, though it's serviceable. I'm also not one to put a heavy emphasis on story as when I play games, it generally takes a backseat to gameplay and a few other aspects if it's not good. At least it's skippable, but obs, this won't be ideal for everyone. IMO the most egregious thing is all the split pathways, like Bottom/"Normal" Logan, "Extra Werewolves" (again, too lazy to figure out how to spoiler), Protection Amulet, Lizards Route (why is there even a bad route if he's not gonna write more for it?), etc.
• Sandbox: FS and some of those other games are definitely intended to be more sandboxy. For where LD was when I started (Bareshade, Forest, Swamp, Bandit Camp), it's definitely grown, and continues to grow, albeit at a slow rate. It's definitely in a decent place at this point.
• Mechanics: I will say at the very least that the game mechanics/grinds can be 100% skipped with cheats and that's one thing I give Hyao tons of credit for because other devs would just slap a higher price tag on that *glares at ToS*. Whether that's a good or bad thing is up to you, but personally I'm mostly here for the fap material, so... I appreciate it. I do agree there's plenty of moments where it's too grindy (doubly so if you have to start a new file because you didn't make backups for virtually every choice...) and that should be toned down, unless cheating is intended to be used.
• Kinks: I mean, that's completely dependent on the player. Hell there's a few thing in LD that I get annoyed when I have to partake in it (that I won't divulge to the entirety of the internet). Unless you outright have a toggle on/off (which some games do), I think it's more of a good thing that LD plays it closer to safe than non (outside of Feral, but that's the only "toggle" kink that I know of since you need to go out of your way to enable it).
• Art: Another subjective thing, though I understand people are understandably upset. Narram is a fine artist, but he's clearly trying too hard to not do something he's used to doing, and hopefully he just does his own art.

Literally every post. Just look at the last few before the one with the most recent update (that has virtually nothing to do since the main quest sucks and it's all PC/non-Males anyway regardless of the customization you have set up); it's laughable how long this lack of content took to push out.

*raises eyebrow* ...similar to LD? Dawn of Corruption was a confusing-as-hell weird ass combo game that I could not get into (also a lot of kinks that aren't my thing), unless the game has changed rapidly since I played. IR also isn't really a game I would think of when I think "LD" (though that's a game I'm definitely more into and sad it's up in the air atm) as it's a Point-and-Click Adventure (albeit one very, very early in development and needs more time in the oven) more than a sandbox RPG.

Sorry to hear that because there's a lot of good stuff there. There also is some art associated with the game, but the thing is it has so much content, like stupid amounts of it. I've probably sunk more time into that game than any other, and I'm not even bi (if I was, man that'd double my content).

You won't enjoy the former since it barely has art. The latter isn't my thing (and is furry-only, just saying that for people who are "ew furry"). Definitely art there though if you wanna give that a try. Do note that 100% of PC-scenes is top only.

My problem with NSFW games though is if it's all story, no (meaningful) choices, and no sandbox-y gameplay, I'm generally turned off. I have no idea how sexy Adastra is or whether I'd like it or not, but you can literally hold the "skip" button and go from start of game to end of game, and that's generally how I "test" new games to see if I'll like it or not. I've heard so many good things about it, but it failed my test so I just don't care for it.

The path to the island is connected to the tunnel (west side of the underground map). You need to Clear the path 7 times for it to open up. Also make sure you have freed Tao and not make him your property.

I cant reach the junkyard, ive read the thread but i simply cant reach it, after i clear the rubble i get the same repeating event about ratkins blocking the island passage. Is there another step im missing?

It's a shame you dislike ToS then because it's basically LD... just with worse balancing, murder porn, and better art IMO.

I'm trying to think of bara-only games besides the two; I did name a few in my previous post like Orveia and Outland Wanderer, both of which are too new to really enjoy though. Small on Top is pretty bara outside of the PC.

Don't mind me because I'm a lot to handle Like I've said because ToS just not my style (Only the art style), despite the fact that the game is fantastic.

Orveia. I have tried and still don't have a favorite character. so I'm waiting for the next update. Maybe I'll find something I enjoy.
Outland Wanderer. Never heard before. So I search on itch to find out there were only two pics example and with the same reason with Orveia. If you find any Bara in those, please let me know it will make my day.

Tavern of Spear/Echo/Adastra/S.H.E.L.T.E.R. have pretty great plots because they wrote it with a specific identity for the protagonist.

But LD certainly has a bigger sandbox compared to newer games like ToS and OIHS. The problem is that the sandbox just keeps getting bigger, but is still shallow as fuck. When ToS introduces a new area, it fucking introduces a new area. The areas are well built into the lore and as slow as it is progressing, its definitely more worthwhile when you go exploring the new dungeon compared to whenever LD releases a same-skinned area with recolored enemies.

Yeah ToS is more of a navigated experience (and I think OIHS is a dating sim?), while in LD You control what contents at play.....in theory, only if it has those contents

Now talking about it, I kinda see why Hyao keeps digging more rabbit holes(?)

• He wanna expand the universe so it's more sandbox-able, like Flexible Survival
• But He lacks the manpower to filling the holes, and he's not good at content management
• Having good arts also eat up a lot of development resources (Which FS doesn't need to worry about)

The more to think about it, the more difficult this game's development seems without partner(S)
Especially it seems Hyao is still struggling to sort it out.

There's a lot of issues really because LD had the potential to be a really big game and the bigger its getting is probably just making Hyao worry even more. Let's all try to remember that gender and sexuality were all options in the beginning, and the game has shifted to 99% gay bottom content. At this point, why do we even have dom/sub scales? Even when playing as a sub, beating enemies would only allow me to only top certain enemies. No power bottoming at all. I get that its sometimes optional to top your enemy but still.

The alchemy portion of the game, one of the more inventive systems introduced in the start, is probably one of the worst now considering how you can have so many ingredients. One of the main reasons I use the debug in the preference menu is because of this. It'd be easier to just craft the goddamn thing rather than insert individual ingredient because there's too many. I wish we had a more intuitive crafting system like something in Mana Khemia, I guess.

Yeah all those possibilities you mentioned are left underdeveloped. I guess Hyao got ambitious but lack the manpower to execute those ideas.
The potions are handy, both gameplay-wise and cheating-wise like change from top to bottom to see different scenes.
But the crafting system is ..... well we are lucky there're in-game cheats.
Polarthief mentioned other games charge these kind of cheats for money, another proof Hyao is not milking his audience.

Okay first off, I don't recognize some games from the ones I've tried, so thank you for a few more recommendations I need to check out As for your actual points, yeah, I don't disagree and I can see how LD has degraded in quality, but I'm still supporting it nonetheless. I also do want to go through each point rq:

• Writing: Yeah, and it also doesn't help I feel like Hyao may be ESL? That's at least the impression I got from day 1 based on how some things are written.
  Story: Agreed, though it's serviceable. I'm also not one to put a heavy emphasis on story as when I play games, it generally takes a backseat to gameplay and a few other aspects if it's not good. At least it's skippable, but obs, this won't be ideal for everyone. IMO the most egregious thing is all the split pathways, like Bottom/"Normal" Logan, "Extra Werewolves" (again, too lazy to figure out how to spoiler), Protection Amulet, Lizards Route (why is there even a bad route if he's not gonna write more for it?), etc.
• Sandbox: FS and some of those other games are definitely intended to be more sandboxy. For where LD was when I started (Bareshade, Forest, Swamp, Bandit Camp), it's definitely grown, and continues to grow, albeit at a slow rate. It's definitely in a decent place at this point.
• Mechanics: I will say at the very least that the game mechanics/grinds can be 100% skipped with cheats and that's one thing I give Hyao tons of credit for because other devs would just slap a higher price tag on that *glares at ToS*. Whether that's a good or bad thing is up to you, but personally I'm mostly here for the fap material, so... I appreciate it. I do agree there's plenty of moments where it's too grindy (doubly so if you have to start a new file because you didn't make backups for virtually every choice...) and that should be toned down, unless cheating is intended to be used.
• Kinks: I mean, that's completely dependent on the player. Hell there's a few thing in LD that I get annoyed when I have to partake in it (that I won't divulge to the entirety of the internet). Unless you outright have a toggle on/off (which some games do), I think it's more of a good thing that LD plays it closer to safe than non (outside of Feral, but that's the only "toggle" kink that I know of since you need to go out of your way to enable it).
• Art: Another subjective thing, though I understand people are understandably upset. Narram is a fine artist, but he's clearly trying too hard to not do something he's used to doing, and hopefully he just does his own art.

Like I said, LD was able to achieve a pretty good balance between all of them, that's what makes it good. You don't need to excel to make a good game. Except it does hv good arts - that's why people are more dissatisfied when the quality dropped.

*raises eyebrow* ...similar to LD? Dawn of Corruption was a confusing-as-hell weird ass combo game that I could not get into (also a lot of kinks that aren't my thing), unless the game has changed rapidly since I played. IR also isn't really a game I would think of when I think "LD" (though that's a game I'm definitely more into and sad it's up in the air atm) as it's a Point-and-Click Adventure (albeit one very, very early in development and needs more time in the oven) more than a sandbox RPG.
There ya go, now that's more like it. LO is basically Sci-Fi LD, and it's also unfair to compare since it's literally on v0.06 as of 3 days ago (it's also the only other game I currently throw money at) while LD is on v0.45.

, the former of which has even worse art (seriously, just look at the werewolf in that game) and is too new, the latter is about as new, emulates ToS way more (though ToS is very similar to LD anyway), and is all furry only, same as ToS (which I know some will take issue with. I definitely don't).

When I said "similar to LD", I meant text-based sandboxies with good arts, not "Play exactly like LD".

• To me ToS is more of a VN, or at least navigated RPG, as you don't get much freedom expect when you choose a route
• Dawn of Corruption starts to add arts / companions of late, the "combo" battle part you can partially ignore, but again, its kinks are rather niche.
• I didn't list VN/Dating Sim, as there're pretty much the majority with lot's of good ones. Since it's the easiest type to make
• If you are into Real-Porn sanboxies there are also quite a few on this site;
• The next easiest / has lots of entries are RPGs with RPGM, like your mention Small On Top; Grove, or with other engine like Robin Morningwood, Lust for adventurer, Valor And Glory
  • But I actually don't like Porn RPGs, as most of the time the gameplays are lackluster / annoying. I'd rather just skip directly into the sex scenes.
• I also tend to not follow fresh new projects, many are dead after a few "tech demo". Even Lust Odyssey I didn't pay attention until Mr Fingers and several others said it's quite good.

That said,
