I feel like it's something about being able to empathize closer with humans that make it so people can roundabout just hate humans more than dumb animals. when I'm inside a house (even an empty one) it doesn't work. When I place the midwife bed outside and click give birth, it doesn't work either, BUT when i click give birth outside without the bed, it works

Yes, but only as the male MC. Press R, and you can start the action. There are also different animations for it if you press R when they are unconscious, sleeping, and you can also give them sleeping pills at the start of the action if they are sleeping.
