Just defeat the Giant normally and after the battle you get the options to kill her or not. Instead of choosing right away, wait a few seconds and an option to seduce her appears.

Yes, the starting location is good enough if all you need is a base. There are other options if you want to build a grand castle.
In my opinion, your starting point should only act as a temporary base for crafting and buying you time to learn the game. That said, this game is not brutal like others survival game, the pace is actually very laid back so you can take your time exploring and find the base that you like best. In my opinion, I always build my bases somewhere clear of trees and anything that can hinder my control, and if you willing to spend time, setting up base in cave is actually very good.
