For me, it was more about gathering the accessories that synergized with the card effects. There is a cloak accessory that adds like two shield points to your character every time you inflicted a status effect with DoT effects, like poison and burn. I think you are meant to explore every nook and cranny of each area at least a couple times before you hit the boss, and when you see loot items that look like a wand, a cloak, or a ring/brooch, grab it. You'll have to craft them after you grab them, but then there's a lot of different strategies that work well after.Does anyone know a good build/deck that works consistently? I used poison to just barely defeat the ice elf.
Everything else I´ve tried is just miserable 30 minute slugfest.
I used another accessory that lowers the amount of cards you can draw per hand, while increasing the amount of mana you had to play with per turn, which synergized well with a card that damaged yourself in exchange for drawing more cards. The accessories I found that really made the difference were Shadow Wand (any time you apply any status effect, apply an extra stack), Alchemist's Garb (every time you apply DoT effects to enemy, gain two shield points), and Thinker's Ring (Gain 2 mana per round, but draw one less card per round).
My strategy was to use any poison/burn cards first to build up shield points, then use the card that adds to your hand, and lowers all spell costs by one for one turn, and the damage backlash from it would eat my shield points instead, rendering no harm to myself. I defeated every boss fairly handily this way. I actually don't remember which world has which accessory, which is why I advise you to simply loot every corner before you even consider some of the bosses, especially once you start opening up the other realms. Oh, and one last piece of advice, I didn't even know until late into the game, that you can freely discard any of the cards in your hand to gain one mana, in order to be able to use your stronger cards. I just ended up spamming weaker cards with 1 or 2 cost for a long time, before I realized, and that then made it easier....
