Normally I always play the stage prior, because I get the same scenario as yours where even if I have cleared every stage in the previous version, the new version won’t let me proceed to the next. Try playing the stage again. That might fix it.

My guess to why this happens is because they haven’t coded a way to unlock the next stage since there isn’t a new stage yet.

I know there was at least one case where the enemy grab changes after you are already defeated, giving a reasonable window to exit while they have you.
