Really enjoying this but there are 3 relatively minor things that IMO would vastly improve the game.
1) Putting the current quest objective on the screen somewhere so I don't have to keep going into the quest log every time it changes
2) Make the default quest log option "current" not all
3) When giving a choice on the screen, make it so that one isn't automatically selected. I keep hitting space on dialogue boxes and pick a random selection when the next one turns out to be a choice. As there is no "back" option, I have to quit to title, load wherever I last saved, and then go through the dialogue very slowly so I can actually read what the choices are and not get whatever was picked as the default.
It's really not that hard to press the right button on the mouse and open the quest menu(or the esc button),it takes seconds to do it and see what to do next,not even a whole minute. And it's your problem that you are constantly hitting "space" button instead of reading the dialogue and the story. If you actually read the dialogue and instead hitting "space" button you click the left button on the mouse like me for example,everything for you it will be very easy and you can actually decide which choice to pick when it arrives instead hitting constantly "space" and risk picking a random choice. Ohterwise you will need to save even much more often only because you will need to load it again after not been able to pick the choice you want and you will keep complaining. This is RPGM game not a single RenPy - here you don't have "back" button,you don't have "back button" in open world games and RPGM is pretty much a open world game not like MMORPG open world but still a open world game. If you don't like that type of games then i suggest you try find the type of games you like,perhaps RenPy like most of the lazy people :LOL:

I use a keyboard as primary input not a mouse.
The dialogue box displays one usually short sentence which takes 1 second or less to read, and is displayed a character at a time, so I often finish reading before the box is ready for input. It isn't uncommon for me to have to hit space twice to advance the dialogue.
You may not have these issues but I certainly do, and if I do others will as well.

First of all, read this calmly, no one's rushing you, haha.

The fun of the game is to keep going even if you make a mistake (like when you make a mistake in real life) or don't know the consequences. You face them and keep going, which is why the game is replayable and has hundreds of different scenes and dialogue combinations. That habit of always wanting to reload everything when you fail completely ruins the fun of an immersive game.

It's like the other guy who complains about the fights when the whole game gives you dozens of ways to get money, health, weapons, level up, and more to face enemies, and the game overs only happen late in the game.

Update v0.40 Base Game Complete (B.G.C.)
Release date:
As soon as it’s ready, I’m thinking late November.
It's possible that I might decide to add another scene with animations. In that case, the release time of the update would be extended by about a month.
This will be the last time I give a timeframe for the release of updates.
Playable days: Sunday and Monday
Scheduled: updated (Sunday event added)
This update will be very short and will include:
  • Sunday: an event at Black’s Bar on the Follow the Plan route, and an event with Faust on the John Doe route.
  • Monday: an event at the Police Station. It will feature the main Good Ending.
Starting with the next update, the game reaches version 1.0 (Complete). Future updates will focus on polishing existing animations and adding small extra content.
Base Game Complete
:
  • Renderings - Black's Bar (100%), Faust (65%), Police Station (0%)
    • Animations - Black's Bar (5/5)*
    • Animations - Faust (4/8)*
      *Most of the animations are made up of multiple animation parts within the same one, so there are actually more than the ones I mentioned.
    • Dialogues (30%)
    • Programming (0%)
Upcoming update highlights:
As an experimental approach, the animations will be created using AI. The credit cost to produce them is quite high, so I hope they’ll be appreciated. Where the AI falls short (since sometimes the results can be unintentionally funny), the animation will be made as usual.
Keep the save folder between updates. It needs to be transferred!

Apologies if I come across as "touchy", I try to make any posts neutral in tone and keep the text relatively simple as people, and I am sometimes guilty of this, skip read and think I wrote/implied something that I didn't mean.

I'm perfectly happy with "living with consequences", it's the reason I usually only use one save game. Using 2 atm due to the equipment being only a single "outfit" and I'll have fights without realising I forgot to unequip/re-equip when changing. So one save at the start of day, and one updated during. Losing a fight because of bad luck, lack of healing items etc. is one thing, losing because all my stuff was in another outfit is where I personally draw the line.

My whine is I want to _choose_ my options, not accidently select one as there were pages of text and I hit space one too many times so I have no idea what the options were or which option I just took. It doesn't stop from from enjoying the game, I would just enjoy it _more_ if there was a mechanism to prevent accidental choices.

In the next update, you will be able to play only on Sunday, which will include two quests:

1. “Blue Night” – Side Quest
It will activate if:

  • Jason and Grace were kidnapped by Simon’s men
  • You have completed all the Black Pub Night quests
2. “Take Hard” – Daily Quest
Available in John Doe’s route if you have 10 or more Corruption points.
This quest will also bring you to the end of the day.

What about Monday?
The meeting with the Captain, which takes place on Monday, will be included in the final update of the game:
Version 1.0, where I will also fix some old animations and other technical elements.

Update 0.40 Animations
Update 0.40 contains the best animations I have ever produced since I started working on this game.
They were created:

  • 99% with AI, using dedicated scripts, longer rendering times, and higher costs
  • to achieve the highest possible quality and avoid poor results
  • with integrated audio
  • and only one animation was made the old way
I’m confident you will enjoy them.

Compatibility with previous saves
In the next update, as stated, you will play only Sunday with those two quests.
To allow different save paths to access them, I will add special buttons inside Manila’s house.

After Version 1.0
Once Version 1.0 is complete (which will include Monday and the game’s ending), I will begin a new project:

“Manila Shaw: Aftermath – Extra One”
A post-ending extension in which you will search for Jason and Grace.
This project will be made in Ren’Py, as will all future projects.

Use of AI for Animations
AI-generated animations will become an essential part of my workflow.
The quality is worth it — and you will see it for yourselves.

However:

  • the number of animations I can create in the future will depend on the support I receive
  • the huge amount of animations in this update was an exception, possible only because we’re at the end of the first game
  • with the current support, I cannot afford this quantity of AI animations regularly due to the “pay and try” nature of AI platforms
If the AI does not produce satisfactory results, I will fall back on traditional animation methods as a plan B.
